What village, town, or city in Europe have you found particularly lovely in spring? I know summer is wonderful for beach-going, fall for changing colors & harvest time, and winter for cozy Christmas markets, but I'm curious about your spring-time finds. Is there anywhere you've been wanting to see during this time of year?
Lillafüred and Kyiv.
Visby & Uppsala
Seeing the tulips bloom near the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. The Picos de Europa in Spain.
We really enjoyed April in Paris (but that was 2004 and it might be different now with the crowds), and April on the French Riviera with friends who live in Antibes. We also had some good luck weather April trips to Scotland and Ireland. I would want to do a spring English countryside trip and a Spain or Portugal spring trip (actually what I really want to do when I have the time is walk one of the Caminos in April or May).
@Badger, Thanks for putting Visby on my radar. I'm seeing its an attractive city and the "most complete of the early Hanseatic towns". Is there a reason you specifically like it in spring? less busy? or?
Don't tell anyone because I'd rather keep the crowds coming in the summer when I'm not there. Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast in April is the calm before the storm. The weather is nice, but still cool enough that tourist season hasn't officially started yet. It's still crowded, but not nearly as bad as what I've been reading about since I got home.
Paris. Then there's Paris and also Paris, lolol!!
It also depends on how you define spring but I had a lovely small tour of Yorkshire and Northumberland in May. Spring flowers were blooming, the rapeseed fields were in full bloom although here in North Idaho I think of them more as a summer plant and some places still had bluebells and tulips.
All of them!
I loved Paris in the Spring, it was lovely.
Dingle Peninsula, Ireland.
In 2010, I walked the Dingle Way, a 100-mile-long trail, in May. It was glorious to be out where few tourists (and even locals) would go. The grass would practically glow in sunlight, and it was blooming with flowers.
The nearby Kerry and Beara peninsulas would also be lovely that time of year.

Visby is always lovely, no matter the season. But a benefit of visiting in the spring is that it is a lot less busy. While it's nowhere near as crowded as Venice, Dubrovnik or Hallstatt, it can be a bit busy during the summer. The added bonus of visiting in the spring or early summer is that there are a lot of roses growing in the city which look better (in my opinion at least) when they have flowers.
Having lived through far too many soggy, cool Seattle springs, spring in Europe is best spent in Southern Europe :). YMMV
I would love an Enchanted April experience: wisteria and sunshine; small Italian castle (or similar); shores of the Mediterranean. And then I would like to return to bluebells in England.
Keukenhof.
Diedesheim. (also its goat)
A lot of people like Berlin at Carnival of Cultures weekend (info of 2023 event).
Thank you all, I'm loving these suggestions! I've definitely added some new ideas to my list of future trips. Spring really does seem like a great time for a lot of European destinations. To add my own-- the West Coast of Ireland. I loved seeing the baby lambs, lush scenery, and little wildflowers (granted, I got very lucky with the weather while I was there!)
1) Nowe Warpno (near a town called Police), a small town situated between Szczecin Lagoon (in Polish: Zalew Szczeciński, in German: Stettiner Haff) and a forest around Wkra river (in Polish: Puszcza Wkrzańska, in German: Ueckermünder Heide).
2) Pyrzyce - a town with folk and long history from the Middle Ages (Duchy of Pomerania) and earlier.
3) Places calmer than the center of Szczecin :)
