Where is the best sticky toffee pudding in the UK?

I have only had sticky toffee pudding twice. The 1st time was in Inverness. The 2nd was in Amsterdam. Our waiter in Amsterdam insisted that their chocolate sticky toffee pudding was better than anything in the UK. He was wrong. I don't know if it was the novelty (they say you always remember your 1st time) or that my first experience with this delicious dessert, uh, pudding, was exceptional. I do know that the flavor was very similar to a Christmas graham cracker cake my mother made with dates and nuts. In any case, I fell hopelessly in love at first bite.

I found a list of places to find the best sticky toffee pudding in London, but being on a quest to find the best, I'd love to hear suggestions for other restaurants there or anywhere in England or Scotland. If it helps, besides London I'll be eating in Bath, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bletchley, Haltwhistle, Edinburgh, Thurso, Kirkwall, Aberdeen, York, Canterbury, Hastings and Winchester.

I don't mean to offend UK citizens, because I dearly love their country and am heading back for another visit in the fall, but I do not get the fuss over sticky toffee pudding. The one time I ate it was not a good experience :-(

If someone can recommend where I might give it a second try to change my opinion, I would be open to suggestion :-)

My word, Emma, I love that recipe! What the heck is "a breakfast cup" of water? There are some mornings when I need my breakfast coffee to be a quart/liter, lol!! I'm assuming it is probably just enough water to cover and soften the dates.

A quick Google tells me that a teacup is 200ml and a breakfast cup is 300ml. I am guessing it is larger because tea drinkers (you know who you are) need their Tetley's Breakfast Tea in large quantities as soon as they are mobile in the morning or the day does not begin.

Thank you Norma and Emma. I did notice it was the parish newsletter and unfortunately I will not be able to bake anything for the Lynsted Fete at the end of summer! Had a good time snooping thru the other items!

Lo, apologies for dragging your sticky toffee pud thread off track!

No problem, Pam. Now I know what size cup of hot caffeinated beverage to have as well as some yummy sounding alternatives to sticky toffee pudding.

Can't say it was "tradional" whatever that is but I loved the one I had at The Wells in Hampstead last year.
