Where do we go?

We've got a week in November to go somewhere.... We've been to various places in Ireland, UK, Italy, Germany... Now looking for something to relax in for a week that's "different!" We are in Tampa/Orlando. Thinking of somewhere new in Europe, but not sure after recent events... But definitely want to be out of the country. Suggestions welcome!

That is too funny.... We actually had planned on flying into Vienna, and then going to Budapest and Prague!

With a week, I'd stick to two locations or you'll spend a lot of time transiting around. Do you have 7 full nights in Europe? All three cities are fine choices - but I'd just pick two.

We're used to flying in and then going three or four places. Our goal this time was to attempt... Even though it won't happen because we like to move about... Going to one or two places. Yes, we've got Sat-the following Monday. Was even debating Canada.

I understand your concern about recent events. I don't think as a whole Europe has any great risk. But I'm not going to tell you that you run a higher risk going to work in the morning. That's sort of a simplistic way of looking at it; but if you are really concerned look towards countries that haven't been targeted by the bad guys.

It's not that we're concerned... Just dont want to be stressed thinking about it. We've got our "Keep on travelin'" shirts and will wear them proudly!

I just noticed the Prague / Vienna / Budapest scenario. With a week I would fly into Prague then fly to Budapest and return home from Budapest. Czech air does Prague to Budapest for under $200. Vienna makes for a good trip another time with Austria and Germany.

If you are into night life, food, theater, concerts, beautifully lit ups cities, history and architecture it makes for a good trip.

In Budapest at least I feel no stress. It where I go a few times a year to unwind and relax.

We were in Germany/Austria in December, and were originally planning on going back to Vienna since we loved Austria. Now this post is making us think we should just go back!

James E. is right about going to Budapest--one of my new favorite cities. We also love Vienna.
You can fly cheap on Norwegian Air Shuttle into London Gatwick and catch a connecting flight to virtually anywhere from there.

With just a week I say go to Budapest and Vienna. Fly into one and out of the other. Save Prague for another trip. Travel time between Budapest and Vienna is <3 hrs on the train. I loved Budapest and can't wait to go back again. Culturewise there will be lots going on in both in November.

You haven't been to France, Spain or Greece. All those are great choices. Prague and Budapest are great as well, but similar to Germany.

If you go to Paris and want to do some of the country side, plan a few days in either Normandy or the Loire Valley.

Also, Portugal is wonderful, the people are the best.

Spain has a lot to see, suggest either Madrid area and Seville/Granada in south.

If you liked Vienna there is a good probability you will enjoy Budapest. A week isn't much time though. I travel to Budapest a lot so I have a rule that each trip must be Budapest plus a new place. In December I booked a flight to Riga, returning home from Budapest. Got great rates. Then a flight from Riga to Budapest for about $80. So that might be an option.

The Budapest Christmas market opens mid month. Last year it was 13 November so what ever the equivalent day is this year.

Hi Matthew,

If you want someplace different, have you considered Iceland? We were there this summer and loved it. If you're lucky and the skies are clear, you might see the Northern Lights. I am told that Reykjavik is milder than NYC in the winter and October/November is the best time to visit. You could go for a swim in the Blue Lagoon. There are also some beautiful waterfalls (Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss) not too far from Reykjavik. There is also the Golden Circle. There is also horse back riding on those wonderful Icelandic horses. Check out the blog www.iheartreykjavik.net for more info on activities.

I have friends that look on Travelzoo to see where they will go to next based on the deals.

Andalucia in Spain is an ideal location for a November trip. Cordoba, Seville, Granada, or Malaga, or any of the many Pueblos Blancos (White Towns) are cooler (in the 20's C) and less touristed at that time of year. The Spanish rail system (RENFE) provides great public transportation.
