I will be visiting Paris and London. Will need to charge my small digital camera (Canon) batteries...and cell phone. Where do I buy the appropriate European plug adapters for France, and Endland??? Will I have any problems charging the above items?
The AMA carries them, and I think you wil lfind them at London Drugs and possibly Canadian Tire. Even Wal*Mart may have them. Check your chargers for the items you plan to take. If they say 110(or 120) to 220(or 240) volts, then all ou need are the plug adaptirs. If they just say 110 or 120, then you need a convertor as well. If your camera takes regular AA rechargeable batteries, and your charger is not dual voltage, you can get a one at London Drugs that is dual voltage (just ask) and it will work with an adapter.
My Canon Digital Camera does not take AA batteries. It takes those small flat square gray batteries...that I charge in a separate charger.
Bee,
As you're travelling to both England and France, you'll need two different Plug Adapters (I'd suggest getting two of each, as they're really cheap and it's always good to have a spare). The UK style has three large rectangular pins while the Euro (France) style has two round pins. You won't need a grounding-type Plug for a Canon Battery Charger, so the "basic" models will suffice.
You should be able to find these at local travel/luggage shops or at The Source electronic stores. Depending on when you'll be leaving on the trip, you could also order these from Magellans or from the Rick Steves Travel Store (click the tab at the top of this page).
All of my Canon Li-Ion Battery Chargers are designed for "world operation" so I'm assuming yours are the same. The Charger should have a label on the bottom stating "Input Voltage 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz." If that's the case, you'll have no problem charging your Camera batteries in Europe.
Regarding your Cell Phone, you will also need to verify that the Charger for that is designed for "world operation"! The other important question is which cell network are you with? That will have a bearing on whether your phone will even work in Europe?
Cheers!
Virtually anywhere (Walmart to Macys) that sells luggage will have adaptors as part of their travel accesories display. It's unlikely that you will need anything more than the plug adaptor for recharging. You will need adaptors for England and the Continent so look for a kit that has both in it and just bring the two you will need.
If you have a lot of trouble finding them (since it's late in the season and many stores aren't restocking) check out a AAA travel store. They always have them.
They can also be purchased on this website for only $1.00 each. Click the "travel store" tab above.
