Does anyone know where I can buy a flat-iron to use in Germany? They need 230 volt and I can only find dual voltage ones with 220 volt. I will not be near any large cities to buy one there.
There are the same. Buy the 220. It will not make any difference.
You can buy things at the airport, and frankly, even small towns have stores with electrical appliances in them.
I was wondering the same thing...but is it cheaper to just buy an adaptor and use a flatiron from home?
Thanks!
Wow. I had no idea there were so many people besides me who put so much thought into a flat iron in Europe.
Sandi, the consensus is do not bring a US flat iron. Even with a voltage converter and a plug adapter. (Remember, you need both) People on this board consistently report their iron burns out.
The two options are 1) buy one in Europe. Advantages: Cheaper, simpler, it works. 2) Buy a dual voltage flat iron and plug adaptor. Disadvantage: Expensive. Advantage: Small, light, works well. Convenient for light travel.
I prefer option #2 because I travel in the US more than I do in Europe, so I LOVE my dual voltage flat iron from Magellan's. It's very small, very light so it's perfect for business/vacation travel. Plus it works well (sometimes travel appliances have inferior performance.) People who don't travel in the US think this is a waste of money. I understand, but I think it's a waste of my money to have an appliance that I can't use here.
We've covered this topic on this board so many times, people without flat-iron fixations must think this is amusing. Please use google to search this board for previous discussions and recommendations.
Most flat irons are dual voltage. But that doesn't help matters. Mine was dual voltage, but it didn't get hot enough. So either it will be too hot and blow out or it won't get hot enough. Anyway, I'm going to buy one that is made FOR Europe. NOT a dual voltage.
If you want to buy one there, look for a Boots. They are in some smaller towns. I haven't been to Germany recently...sorry!
Why not bring a dual voltage one from home? Braun makes a compact travel one now you might consider.
F/A! Welcome back!!!
Nikki,
You might have a look at www.magellans.com/store/Health___Hygiene___Hair_CareEP109?Args= for a dual-voltage Flat Iron to use in Europe.
One note regarding the voltage - in equipment ratings, usually a "nominal" voltage is specified which covers a specific range. Often when manufacturers specify the input voltage of 220 Volts for an appliance, this covers a range from about 220 - 240 Volts. If you can find some knowledgeable sales staff, you could double-check this, but I suspect a 220 Volt model would work fine in Europe.
Good luck and happy travels!
