Who else is counting down? :-)
I have the Netherlands & Belgium in 19 days and Rome in 101 days!
Who else is counting down? :-)
I have the Netherlands & Belgium in 19 days and Rome in 101 days!
17 days for Belgium/Netherlands myself!
85 days until I'm (back) in Spain—Madrid & Sevilla!
134 days until... Spain, again‽ —Mostly Gran Canaria
Starting this thread on the day I go back to the office feels almost insulting 😂. I do not even have another trip scheduled... But I'm not complaining, summer was quite busy with a 2-week trip to NW Spain and a 2-week trip to the Jura, the Toulon area, and Auvergne.
Well, I have been trying to hydrate myself better so drinking water first thing in the AM. Yesterday, I drank it and thought...gosh, I need to go ahead and start hydrating for the plane trip. It was about noon when I realized that the "plane trip" is 5 weeks away, hahahaha!!!
Too much time talking travel with friends, stewing about luggage, weighing packing cubes and tee shirts, etc.
34 days and counting....
38 days to go for 23 days in Spain
20 days to England.
14 days to go before 5 weeks in South Africa 😁🦓🦒😎 !
32 days and counting until my Loire Valley to south of France Tour! 🥳
Rough past 2 years for many reasons, plus I've only taken 3 days off from work over the past year.
23 days to Turkey and the Caucasus
141 days to Panama and Colombia
About 8 months to Norway
About 13 months to Egypt, Israel, and Jordan
Budapest, 24 days mid November. With at least one side trip for maybe 5 days. Maybe SLovakia, maybe Montenegro, maybe that country that must not be mentioned. Will wait and see whats going on and accessible.
I arrive back 92 days after having left.
As of now that would be 86 days to go.
Aww, sorry balso! ☺️
Don't feel sorry haha. I remember now that I have a work trip to Munich in 28 days. Right in time for Oktoberfest 🍻!
Balso, hopefully you can bridge that work trip to a weekend!
I want to be Lane when I grow up.
431 days until I leave for Paris
12 days to Lake Tahoe
59 days to Spain
91 days to Germany Christmas Markets
228 days to England/London/Netherlands/Belgium/France/Luxembourg
FYI for those who use Excel to plan your trip ... here's the formula to countdown the days ... and hours and minutes and seconds (B6 is the cell location with the start date but that can be any cell location) ... =(INT(B6-NOW()))&" Days "&(IF(HOUR(B6)<=HOUR(NOW()),(HOUR(B6)-HOUR(NOW())+23),(HOUR(B6)-HOUR(NOW()))))&" Hours "&(IF(MINUTE(B6)<=MINUTE(NOW()),(MINUTE(B6)-MINUTE(NOW())+59),(MINUTE(B6)-MINUTE(NOW()))))&" Minutes "&(IF(SECOND(B6)<=SECOND(NOW()),(SECOND(B6)-SECOND(NOW())+59),(SECOND(B6)-SECOND(NOW()))))&" Seconds to go"
11 days - Italy
My 2 International trips are done for the year. Darn!
I go to Maui for a week in January for some diving and to visit a friend.
Germany for 2 weeks on March 31.
Allan, you did Scotland, but are going back again for England?
And I want to be TexasTravelmom when I grow up!
i don't count down until i buy the plane tickets. i plan on going to kolkata, India in december. i will decide what to do next summer in early 2023.
DQ, this is brilliant! My next obsession! And Tammy, you make me laugh!
9 days till 6 weeks in Poland and Hungary
73 days to England to hear the Proclaimers
103 days to Germany/France for Christmas Markets
Time to start planning for 2023! 🤣🤣
About 65 days until Iceland, 100 until Germany/Austria, and 11 months for Iceland again.
Back to England for 3 weeks. But in 2023 after the crunch of the other pent up travelers is over. :)
Sixteen days to Portugal and 32 days to Spain.
Time to start planning for 2023! 🤣🤣
I have trips planned in my mind (ok, on paper too) until early 2025 LOL
61 days until I spend a month in Bologna.
22 days till departure for 31 days in Italy. 2nd attempt at the trip after 2-year delay.
20 days til the BOE 21day start.
10 months and 4 days til the HOI 9day trip.
It’s a week until I head to Norfolk (England for 16 days), 31 days until I head to Belgium for a week and 7 weeks today I head to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands for 5 weeks of autumn sunshine (hopefully).
9 day count down for flight to London/France/Venice. Then will start counting down to June in Germany and Austria.
Oh, roubrat, I do too! But I don’t have any plane tickets for 2023 yet! Waiting on a couple of crucial pieces of travel plans from others so I can knit my pieces together.
Should be shoving back from the gate in 24 hours! PDX-FRA then on to the Alpe di Siusi, Ortisei, Bettmeralp, Lauterbrunnen, and a return from Geneva on October 15.
This year, no book updates, just FUN! (I wanted a vacation from editing.) I will blog, though, I think…
232 days until our trip to Spain, France, UK followed by cruises to Hebrides, Shetland, Faroe Islands and Norway.
Seems like a long wait!
4 days until I return to Italy! 0 days until I am mentally there. ; )
I’m still trying to finish my June on-line photo book this week!
Otherwise, there’s domestic trips, and already some mental planning for Europe in approximately June & September next year. A tiny positive outcome of the Covid pandemic has been realizing that time is short, so two trips a year might become the norm while we’re still active - one solo for me, and one where my husband joins me for part of it.
17 days for Paris and England… 🥳
A tiny positive outcome of the Covid pandemic has been realizing that time is short, so two trips a year might become the norm while we’re still active
Exactly my feelings too, Jean.
9 days, 13 hours and 2 minutes until departure for Paris.
Who's counting? We are!
Single digit countdown for me/us! Less than 2 days....but still so much to do, so little time.
Heading to Italy for the RS' Best of South Italy Tour; then on to Northern Italy and then back to Switzerland.
"....the mountains are calling and I must go."
Laurel, we have your book, Walking in Switzerland's Berner Overland, and hope to do some of the hikes you describe.
16 days to England. Pulled out the carry on. Contemplating.
Planning Camino #5 for next April, starting in France, and walking over the Pyrenees. Not sure what day yet, maybe the 13th of April?
About a month before I am back in beloved Italy for my 12th visit.
I’ve been packed for two months.
That’s normal, right??🤣
too old to do math

Four days to go until we depart for the Dolomites for ten days of hiking.
After last-minute canceling two prior trips to Italy, one in March 2020 and another more recently, I won’t believe we are really going this time until the plane leaves the ground.
Should be shoving back from the gate in 24 hours! PDX-FRA then on to the Alpe di Siusi, Ortisei, Bettmeralp, Lauterbrunnen, and a return from Geneva on October 15.
Have fun Laurel!
We have 13 wake ups until Paris! 2 weeks planned in Paris & 2 weeks open.
306 days 'til I finally make it back to Italy. Only the flights booked so far. Endless possibilities. Dolomites? Liguria? Tuscany? No matter - just get me anywhere in Italy!
I know I'm getting older when I can't remember whether I posted in this thread or not.
We're driving a 9-day tour of New England in June, then touring Scotland in July. Too many days away to countdown. For all I know the world will end before then or some other major calamity.
Balso, sorry to hear that.
Years ago, I had a friend who would use a countdown method to help him look forward to vacation. Since then, he has installed a countdown app on his phone, which I started to do as well.
It's nice to be able to look at your phone every and see that your vacation is getting closer...especially on Monday mornings before work! 😆
4 days from today....
Italy 3 weeks
Germany 2 weeks
Slovenia 1 week
225 days before I leave for Morocco.
Allan, you did Scotland, but are going back again for England?
We're recreating what 2020 was supposed to have been. We had booked the Scotland trip, and then in January of 2020 a seat sale to London popped up, so we booked it. Same thing happened this time, we rebooked Scotland and then in January 2022 the seat sale to London popped up and so we went for it again. Tip to anyone flying WestJet, it appears that seat sales to London show up in January for September/October trips.
We're doing plenty of catching up next year...
on one RT flight:
April 2023 - 20 days in Belgium & Holland, includes 11-day RS tour, extra time for Vermeer retrospective
May 2023 - 21 days in Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, includes 12-day B-P-V tour
next RT flight:
October 2023 21 days Greece, includes RS Athens & Greece tour
?
I think there are a few people on the forum that are going to the Vermeer exhibition next year :-)
You can catch the Cezanne retrospective through Sept. 5 at the Art Institute of Chicago. It moves to the Tate Modern Oct. 5, 2022 thru March 12, 2023. It's the biggest Cezanne retrospective since the Philadelphia Museum of Art's blockbuster in 1996. It's worth a quick trip to Chicago.
I'll be over there during that time in the early stages of my 6-week retirement trip and was planning a trip to the Mauritshuis to see The Girl with a Pearl Earring (as part of my quest to see the top 50 paintings in the world ... have only seen 4 so far but this is a biggie as it is #5 on the top 50 list) ... I'll adjust the plan to take this into account ... glad I started browsing through the forum again after a bit of a hiatus
DQ my fellow Excel nerd.. That's a nice formula!! My Excel skills are waning since I retired, but I can still appreciate...
78 days until a long weekend in Asheville North Carolina
98 days until 12 days in France and Germany for the Christmas Markets.
Oh, 41 days since Lyon, Chamonix, Nimes, Provence and Paris. :(
32 days till Colorado
252 days till Scotland
365+days til road trip to PEI
If you fly Delta, they will give you a countdown on your my trips page on the app.
If you fly Delta, they will give you a countdown on your my trips page on the app.
17 days and 1 hour until I can check-in on the app :-)
11 days until we fly to Rome for 14 day BOE, our first RS tour and first time to Europe, 35th anniversary trip!! So excited ✈️
Copenhagen solo, tomorrow! short trip, only five days.
Santa Fe, NM in mid-October with my husband, on the dates we were originally booked for Best of Istanbul - we bailed when there was no end in sight for return testing (which of course ended about a week later)..
Then Berlin with my son for a week after classes end in December, for his thrice-rescheduled graduation trip.
Hey Jimmy, looks like you'll be getting there just about when I am leaving, I'll try not to drink all the gluhwein so there's some left for you :-) ... just curious, which markets will you be hitting? ... In the 8 days we'll be there, I'm planning on Cologne, Aachen, Duisburg, Essen, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Koblenz, Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg, Esslingen, Karlsruhe and Mannheim (and maybe adding 2 more days for Nuremburg) ... with a side trip to Tubingen for the ChocoLART Festival ... I know it's aggressive but that's our style (at least for now, ask me again down the road).
DQ, Our plan is Strasbourg, Colmar, Stuttgart. Esslingen, then back to the west for Metz. We have a few open days for other markets and sites as needed. We fly in and out of Paris.
Hmmm. I’m getting pre-trip jitters. Scotland and then London in TWO days!
Germany. Leaving in just under 6 weeks.
Usually this time of year I would say nowhere until February. However, you asked this at the right time:
15 days until California
54 days until our first river cruise (Rhine) fingers crossed
68 days until Munich and Stuttgart (solo). I didn't realize when I booked this trip that we return from our cruise 3 days before. Oh, well.
116 Days until our Danube river cruise and Christmas Markets
177 days until Florida and the southeast.
Scotland is approaching for X number of days and leaving in X days.
The Covid years ruined my post-retirement "minimum 3 trips a year" schedule. I'm getting back on track though. The only plus is that the travel funds increased from lack of spending.
5 weeks, 2 days till my month in the US for family, friends, and shopping and also 5 days in Zion NP and Bryce NP bookended by Las Vegas, and 6 days being a tourist in downtown Chicago - Tammy, I plan to visit that rooftop bar and will raise a glass to you and Tim.
2 months after that, Christmas markets in Budapest, Vienna, Nice/Riviera and Barcelona for 2.5 weeks.
4 months later (still in planning), 3+ weeks in Benelux.
Six weeks until we leave for Italy - Venice, Rome and then finally we’re getting to Puglia for a couple of weeks!!!!
Paris again, 234 days!
274 days until South Korea.
358 until our bucket list trip best of Europe....so excited already...not sure how I'm going to manage the wait. Been doing lots of research and study. :)
Mardee, I think you may be arriving in Colorado about the same day I am, which is 7 days before I leave for Portugal. Perhaps I'll see you at the airport!
And let's see, "Alexa, how many days until I leave for Bulgaria?" Answer: 264!
31 days till Ireland
7-8 months till Italy (not planned yet, I've been slacking)
5 days in Zion NP and Bryce NP bookended by Las Vegas
Chani, Zion and Bryce Canyon are AMAZING ... if you're into hiking, the trail down to Queen's Garden is easy and the hike in the canyon is beautiful, but be forewarned, the climb back up thru Wall Street will test your legs (and everything else) ... Route 12 west of Bryce is also spectacular, you'll more than likely take that road coming and going ... I suggest going to Bryce first so you can enter Zion on route 9 from the east, breathtaking views on the way into the park ... be sure to stop and take the Canyon Overlook trail (parking is limited and before you enter the tunnel), not a very long hike but rocky and uneven in some parts, but the reward at the end is well worth it! ...
If you have time, the Valley of Fire state park is a worthwhile detour on the way to Bryce and Zion ... and Red Rock Canyon just west of Vegas is another marvel of nature (and you can watch the climbers as they scale the walls) ... and of course Hoover Dam east of Vegas is a definite visit.
"Alexa, how many days until I leave for Bulgaria?" Answer: 264!
CW, Alexa knows EVERYTHING, good thing she doesn't have video .. or does she?
Wait -
Somewhere in there I have to go to Tahiti as I won 4 days a overwater bungalow at 4 season Bora Bora
@travelingwithtroy, this sounds like a great story!
And after finishing that Highway 12 drive from Bryce to Zion, I had to look back at what I had just done to my terrified-of-heights self! Amazing scenery!
2 days leaving to hike/walk the Camino Del Norte in Spain
46 days for rest in Kauai
94 days for Christmas Markets in Germany and Austria
Chani, oh man I wish I could join you in Chicago for that roof top bar drink! I know we tried to go up there, but now can’t remember why we couldn’t go out on the deck.
If you ever make it to Alaska, let me know!
4 days ago I posted this

Got this new one
The Fiji tourism board has given me a free flight(just need to pay taxes) to Fiji that I need to use by May 31 2023
Tammy It was the RAIN. Denali is really high on my wish list, so maybe on my next US trip. I've been along the Inside Passage on the state ferry from Bellingham to Juneau and back. It only made me want to see the rest of the state.
DQ & AMann Zion is my favorite place in the entire world! This will be my 10th visit (maybe 11th, I've lost count). And yes, we are going to Bryce first in order to have that morning drive in to Zion with the sun at our back. I hiked the Canyon Overlook trail once - solo - and there weren't any other people along the tricky parts which was a bit stressful, but the view was definitely worth it. My friend's been with me to Zion twice already, but not to Bryce. I'm going to try to get her up early for sunrise. We went to the Valley of Fire once, quite nice, but what I remember is driving back to Vegas and watching the gas gauge hovering just above empty. She'd done the driving from Springdale and thought there'd be lots of places to fill up on the road. We won't have time for Red Rock (I've been) but after Zion and Bryce, it's nothing to write home about. I don't remember the Queen's Garden hike but from your description I'll take a pass, thanks.
Back to Alaska (18 years) Inside Passage, Denali, Talkeetna, Alyeska in early June 2023. Also starting to ponder Switzerland, about the last remaining "must do" in Europe - that and Portugal.
Now 16 days till we leave home for Italy.
We're considering serious isolation in advance of the trip. We had to cancel an Italy tour 2 years ago due to the pandemic and don't want COVID to interfere this time. We are taking the usual precautions, minimizing shopping trips, masking indoors in public, fully boosted. We'll be masking in airports, on the plane and when using other public transportation.
Are others being extra cautious while in predeparture mode?
You know it's getting close when your arrival date shows up on the extended weather forecast! 😊
I don't remember the Queen's Garden hike but from your description I'll take a pass
Chani, didn't mean to talk you out of the hike ... the hike down to Queens Garden is easy and so are the trails once you're there ... it's the hike back up that can be tough ... but really not that much tougher than climbing up the stairs in an old cathedral to see the view from the top of the dome ... or the Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga, Portugal ... just take your time, stop to admire the the beauty and before long you're back to the top of the rim.
Goodness, you all are making me envious !! No plans for anything as of yet . . .
@TexasTravelmom
I was thrilled when my name was pulled for 4 nights in an overwater bungalow , breakfasts and 1 full body massage for 2 .
I was more in shock once i got home and pulled up the cost ,3500 a night
I can't even imagine on what 3500 a night would get you
40 days to Spain! Sevilla, Granada, Madrid and Bilbao.
I can't even imagine on what 3500 a night would get you
If you can unload on ebay or something like that for half the price ($1750 a night), that's $7,000 ... I can imagine a nice 2+ week trip to Italy or France or some other place you've never been but always wanted to go ... or just go for the experience.
I think I would keep the 3500/night place for myself! I mean, when else would you stay at a place like that! Plus now you have airfare also! Come back and tell us all about it afterwards so we can drool with envy, 🤣🤣
Three days until Paris then England!
Budapest, Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro will be our next trip--whenever my wife mends from her broken leg.
Been 2x this year, so we may be a year out from more travel.
Germany, Austria and Italy in 2 weeks! Going to combine Oktoberfest with visits to Franconia (Nuremberg and Bamberg), a day trip to Salzburg and 3 days in Venice.
64 days until our South Pacific cruise out of LA - 3 Hawaiian islands, Samoa and American Samoa, Tahiti, and Moorea. Lots of sea days, so will be a really relaxing trip.
5 months til Barbados
Scotland will have to wait until this time next year
One day to go to take off to England…yeah! Carry on is packed and at the back door. I find it amazing that it’s not the clothes that filled up the suitcase. It’s the medication and masks that made me sit on it to close it. Sheesh!
If I want to bring home a souvenir, it better be a scarf that I can wear on the plane…or a ring…or a necklace. You get the picture.
I thought I was the only person that counted days a year in advance. We are planning/preparing for a transatlantic cruise in May that will follow the coasts of Portugal and Spain the second week and end in Barcelona, where we will spend additional days. We made our hotel reservations yesterday and will probably deal with airlines soon. J said the cruise countdown was at 241 days today. We also are planning to return to Italy in the fall, but I try to limit my daydreams to one trip at a time, especially with the holidays approaching. I got a little mixed up this year she we returned to international travel.
Living vicariously through everyone who has less than my 17 days until their trip! 🥳
So many that posted on this thread are now on their trips 😊 Hope everyone has a great time!
Such inspiration here! Next trip is August/September 2023 for 5 weeks. Haven’t selected a destination and it’s too many days to count :(
9 days until we leave for RS Best of Germany- including Oktoberfest!
We just returned from Belgium and Germany two weeks ago, and the UK 5 months ago.
Our next trip (to France and Austria) is in 77 days.
I will go to Black Forest (Feldberg area) in 16 days :-) Really looking forward to that.
I'm a big fan of the Baltic Sea and not traveling north is kind of an adventure :-) :-)
I’m here now! In Paris. England next week.
232 days until Scotland.
I'm in Italy now, but already in my itinerary 2023,flights booked, back to Italy for 13 days, departure on May 10.
Then to Copenhagen in time for jazz festival, departure on June 30,return 12 days later, probably spend a few days in Gothenburg, Sweden, which I love.
I am extremely lucky to travel and don't take that lightly.
At 70 years and the world in crisis on so many fronts,if you can go don't wait!
Just booked my hotel and train for Venice ..... still 111 days to go.
Can't wait but I'm a bit nervous because going solo this time. But since my plan is to take photos most of the time should be fine :-)
46 days until Rome 🙂
Roubrat- We seem to be traveling with similar frequancy and on similar schedules!
Guess that means you'll have to go to Spain again in March 😁
Booked it a few days ago!
I need to get on it!
Edit: 153 days until Spain
10 days until our 4th trip to Iceland!
Then the day after we get home, I fly to CA to my moms again. I will be completely wiped out, but will rally somehow;)
London and Paris, including Disneyland Paris! 22 Days!
In 2 weeks leave for Bend Oregon with my younger dog. Pick up an old friend at the airport there, check into Airbnb, mountain bike until we can't walk for 3 days. Drive to Bay area, stay was sister-in-law. Drive to San Diego pick up family from the airport stay with parents for a week. 5 days to drive back to Seattle.
Then Whistler and Vancouver for four nights over Thanksgiving.
Then some sort of second early season ski trip.
Then a ski week and a ski long weekend in the new year.
And a short week in Hawaii in March.
Europe for 6 weeks starting the end of July.
Probably another trip or two wedged in there somewhere.
Seems pretty busy when you write it all down
It's a new year with new travels on the horizon.
So: Where are you going next? How many days to go? ✈️
Spain in 68 days for me 🙂
My reply from August was: 9 days, 13 hours and 2 minutes until departure for Paris.
My now answer is 122 days. Paris-Normandy-Rouen-Liege-Luxembourg City.
AND approximately 150 days until Portland Oregon and Redwood Forest.
AND approximately 487 days for Japan.
I have some loose plans after that, but it looks greedy .
Alaska Inside Passage cruise in 144 days
Svalbard and Norway’s fjords cruise in 182 days
Both of these are with Nat Geo/Lindblad.
A tiny tropical island in the Caribbean that you've never heard of (it's small - you can walk all the way around the island in about 5 minutes). A week of scuba diving and just chilling. 46 days from now.
The Oregon Coast. Spring break road trip for the kids. 90 days from now.
Malta and Istanbul for 17 days. 256 days from now.
For next year: Corsica, Greece, southern Japan and Colombia are currently in the running for multiple slots. We'll see.
Vandabrud....laughing out loud at your post!
I've got 90 days before I leave for Amsterdam/Paris/London/Northern England (a Mark Seymour tour for 2 weeks).
It's 149 days before I go do my annual trip to Yellowstone for a couple of weeks!
Not sure what the Fall/early winter plans will be!
David...I hope you will do a TR on Malta!
96 days to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.
I hope you will do a TR on Malta!
I was just about to say this too.
Will do! 👍
7 days til we start the drive down to San Francisco for a 2-week visit with our kids and grandchildren. I’m thinking we may need an amphibious vehicle for the drive, given all the flooding in California.
35 days til we leave for Italy (Puglia, Venice, and Bologna). This will be a third try for a winter trip we have booked and canceled twice before (2020 and 2022).
8 months til we head to Switzerland and the Dolomites, taking two of our adult children and their spouses, and two grandsons who will be 11 by then.
10 months till we return to Japan for the fall color season.
Just starting to plan our first trip since covid sidelined us. We are planning a 15 day trip to Switzerland leaving in 103 days. Have contacted our friend there. Have not yet made airline and hotel reservations. I think we will try United Economy Plus. Will be my 25th trip to Europe which has been a long-term goal of mine for years. I said I wanted to go to Europe 25 times. After this trip I'll make a new goal of 40 times. Would like to say 50 but I'm getting up there. Not ancient yet, but working on it.
Also starting to plan a trip for late September - early October to Black Forest area and Bavaria in Germany. Have no idea at this point how many days out other than a lot. Hope to use frequent traveler miles for this trip.
Happy Travel planning everyone!
Traveler Girl
Love reading about all the upcoming travels!
I leave tomorrow for the Bay Area to see mom.
A trip to Eugene, OR next month to see my parents and then another trip to the OR coast for a girls weekend.
Our big trip this year is not until July, so about 6 month away. That is a camper van for 10 days in the Westfjords of Iceland, then another week for Thorsmark and Westmann Island for 2 days.
30 days to go before we fly out for 60 days in Spain.
Hotels all booked.
Test packing is next on the list of pre trip things to do.
The trouble with reading this thread is that .....
It is distracting me from working....
It is giving me too me new ideas!
@Pam: Mark Seymour, looks intriguing. Trip report please!!
Oh, fun! We get to start over!!
43 days and 9 hrs till Dubai, Budapest, and Andalusia!
108 days and 9 hrs till Albania and northern Greece!
Vermont in 2 days!
Scotland in 140 days!!!
Possibly a trip or two to Texas and Santa Fe before Scotland
Hopefully, more trips after Scotland
Yes, travel plans and trip reports.
For us it is 51 days to Egypt, Jordan and Israel for 24 days
96 till Paris and London for 22 days
Disney cruise in late august with our daughters, spouses, 4 grandchildren, one niece and one aunt. Fun time.
Finally September will be Croatia and Italy. Cities to be determined.
San Jose, CA, in 12 days for a sports event, returning on Jan 30.
Rome and Naples in 32 days (this qualifies as an "eek", because I am so not ready and will be back from California for only 10 days before departing again).
Sweden/Finland/Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania and probably more, beginning June 14. Return date not set, but most likely late September or early October.
I've never tried to do a winter trip to Europe before. I have my doubts, but at 71 years old, I worry about running out of time before I run out of destinations.
May thru June . The longest we have been gone about 6 weeks. First… tour for southwest England with mark Seymour, then week on our own in Glasgow. Hope over to outer Hebrides tour with James mccletchie for a week. Then week or so in london on our own. We scored baseball tickets for cardinals vs cubs game.
I envy you fine folks that can travel for weeks at a time. Due to work and family commitments we can only get away for 10 days or so at a time. I salute you extended travelers!
We're spending 8 nights in Edinburgh in July, preceded by 4 nights in Boston in June. As for Edinburgh we're touring with Rabbie's.
Also, going to see Bruce Springsteen in March for our 40th anniversary.
Probably flying out to San Diego to see my daughter.
So, a big year for us.
Not Europe, but Mexico (Yucatan), and we are leaving in 24 more sleeps.
This was a last-minute decision. I just finished booking accommodations two days ago. We had been thinking of going to Southeast Asia, but my mother-in-law has Stage 4 cancer, so we've decided to stay on the continent where we can get home with a single flight, if necessary.
We haven't been to Mexico before, as it's never been high on our list, but we are looking forward to it.
133 days until I leave for Slovenia and Croatia and then 277 for days until I am in Tuscany. I am excited!
Japan in 119 days.
47 days before I leave for 14 days tour of Morocco.
220 days before I go to Switzerland for 10 days with my daughter.
Excited about both for different reasons but Switzerland is our all time favourite and we will be traveling with friends who have not seen the Lauterbrunnen Valley area so they are in for a treat.
This is fun! Thanks for the forum!
I'm at 90 days before 3 days in Paris, 8 day Seine river cruise to Normandy and back, one day to Aachen, 3 in Ghent, 4 in Haarlem, then home.... if I must!
23 days till Mexico! After that, who knows?
Vandabrud…you can be sure I’ll do a TR!
8 days til Venice :-)
12 days until Spain. Well really 13 days, as from Australia our flight time is 33 hours to Madrid via Singapore and London.
After serious back surgery 6 months ago, my wife is still having mobility issues.
But I'm going to Israel for a week over Spring Break with 9 men from our church. It's a work session building a wheelchair ramp and painting. Only problem is getting there--on 2 stop flights. Not everyone knows how to schedule flights.
One day till flight to Buenos Aires and cruise to Antarctica. Mid-march to Australia and our seventh continent. A great travel quote fits us. “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”
It’s 21 days til we board a ship in San Diego and cruise to Hawaii & Tahiti & back five weeks later. Our 50th anniversary trip, delayed three years.
And 216 days til we return to Crete for a month.
Yay, we get to start over!
Just got back from a week in Maui.
Germany in 63 days, Grand Canyon river rafting in 151 days, London & Bath in 243 days.
74 days until we take the train from Frankfurt to Paris, then Bayonne and then onto Saint Jean Pied de Port. Next day, start walking over the Pyrenees and spend 7 weeks walking 800 km on the Camino Frances. This is Camino #5 for me.
So excited!
Lunar Base Alpha in 2085.
Couple of days till I book another Fall trip to London.
Happy 2023
EDIT: acraven if you like steaks please go to Henri’s Hi Life in San Jose. Venerable spot that was the go to spot for a Friday cocktail and steak dinner, when I lived in SJ.
24 days till 5 weeks in Dubai, Budapest, and Andalusia. Mentally ready right now, but the suitcase could take a few hours.
48 days until Spain
77 days until we leave for the Azores! Very excited about this one, as the islands have been on my bucket list for years!
OK...you all made me get a countdown timer on my phone!
69 days to Amsterdam/Paris/London/Northern England
128 days to Yellowstone
AND I am allowing myself to get out my "packing card table" to start staging things. I've been throwing them into my suitcase but friend Darcy has expressed an interest in taking a look at that bag again so need to empty it to take it to lunch tomorrow!
Just signed up for a Road Scholar tour (my first) in Provence, starts 254 days from now. The other RS, our host, doesn't have one like it or I'd have done that. I'll be going over about a week ahead so more like 247 days to go really.
But I'm more focused on Oaxaca three days from now!
Paris and Normandy in 92 days.
0 days to Venice.
Already waiting at the train station Munich East :-)
4 hours until we leave for the airport for Spain.
2 days until we actually land in Madrid - 27 hours in the air and 11 hours in layovers in Singapore and London.
My "framily" group (eight of us this time) is headed to Spain (Granada, Cordoba, Ronda, Tarifa/Morocco, Cadiz, El Rocio/Donana, Sevilla) and Portugal (Algarve, Atlantic Coast, Lisbon, Sintra, Coimbra, Porto, Douro Valley, possible three-day walk on the Portuguese Camino) in 121 days! (Thank goodness for calendar calculators. :-)
24 days till my next getaway in Füssen at a nice spa hotel :-) Really looking forward.
France…Tours, Strasbourg and ending in Paris.
116 days to go!
Anticipation and planning are a big part of the trip!
Italy with my husband, daughter & SIL and my husband's sister, who has never traveled outside the U.S!. We leave one month from today which, thanks to February being a short month, is also exactly four weeks! We'll be there 2 weeks with them, then my husband and I are staying an extra week. This is my longest vacation ever at 3 weeks. Previously 16 days was our max. Can't wait!
If I said Budapest, that would be no surprise. And I arrived Saturday. In two weeks I'm off to Bucharest for a week. Why? $90 RT from Budapest is why.
Medellin next Wednesday and then Europe (Rome, Athens, Istanbul) in less than 6 weeks!
4 days - Big Island of Hawaii visiting friends and family
182 days - St Louis, MO attending my nieces wedding
217 days - Iceland (first visit) and Portugal (second visit)
Wow, it will be so wonderful to warm up in Kona after these frigid winter days
24 days...Nice and Paris...hopefully without too many disruptions from strikes.
10 days until Spain!
23 days to Germany
111 days for river rafting the Colorado River in GC.
180 days for Brown Bears at Katmai NP
203 days till London & Bath
Really need a dive trip!😉
Less than 24 hours until Merida, Spain. We are currently in Sevilla and have been seriously underwhelmed by Andalucia. Hoping Extremadura will cheer us up.
Oh no, AussieNomad! I hope you'll share your thoughts when you return.
15 days til the Netherlands.
-2719 days since my last trip to London.
191 days until my next trip to London.
I'm sure that's enough time for the good citizens of London to forgive-and-forget!
(I hope)
-- Mike Beebe
Eight weeks until Bozeman, MT. Six months and eight weeks until Berlin. Nothing planned for summer so far, but I am watching all kinds of flights and using Google Fllights 'explore' and if something cheap pops up, I'm on it.
9 days until Madrid...
20 days, to a 36 hour stopover in Iceland, 4 days in London, and 5 days in Paris. I.Cannot.WAIT.
It has been almost 11 years to the day since the last time we were out of the country (went to Paris and London then, too, on our honeymoon). We're taking our 7 year old with us, and meeting up with my older brother, his wife, and his kids in Iceland and then traveling together. They haven't been out of the US before either (the kids I mean, of course this is assuming their passports actually get here in time).
I haven't started packing my bags yet but it's getting close lol.
Kristi, I can feel your excitement!
31 days for me until I leave for Scotland - I'll be there for a little over 3 weeks. I am so ready!
8 days until we leave Madrid for home (Australia) after 60 days in Spain. Long trips are hard - I am craving my favourite local restaurant and my garden. My husband just wants to get back to the gym and to eating good muesli.
I had to cancel the Spain trip I was counting down to 😒 It does NOT feel good having nothing booked...but hoping to change that soon!
Only 22 days before I leave for Switzerland, first trip since covid; first trip to Switzerland since 2017. Going to see an old friend, visit favorite places and explore some new ones. Need to get serious about packing!
Happy travel planning and travels to all!
Traveler Girl
46 days till my trip to Poland and Czech Republic — I worked/lived in Prague in 1994-95 and this will be my first time back since leaving.

136 days - St. Louis, MO niece’s wedding

Gone for 41 days!
Did I say…. Splurged for business class. Woot hoot!!!
5 days until I leave for London for a few days before I go to Canterbury to join the RS Southern England tour. I can’t believe the time is here for this long-awaited trip!
20 hours before I leave for Germany. Haven't flown internationally since the pandemic so wish me luck!
4 sleeps until 2 weeks in Sorrento.
20 hours before I leave for Germany. Haven't flown internationally since the pandemic so wish me luck!
Viel glück! 😉
3 more months until I move to Sweden!
Wow, Carlos! A move to Sweden - how exciting!
16 days till 39 days in Albania and northern Greece!
From warm Spain to cold Sweden-quite the adventure!
@TexasTravelmom and heather - Yes I'm very excited about the move! I have the opportunity to work at a Swedish video game company and decided to go for it :)
Though this ain't my first rodeo at moving internationally lol. I'm currently living in Los Angeles (after moving here from Barcelona a few years ago). The Sweden move should be easier since I'm an EU citizen. It was really fun living in the USA, but I'm looking forward to decent public transportation, affordable healthcare, and frankly not having to worry about gun violence!
We flew back from our Munich/Vienna/Budapest trip 17 days ago. Nothing really planned internationally until a possible April or May 2024 trip to Ireland to discover my husband's roots!
amyk I hope you'll consider writing a trip report. I'm thinking about Vienna and Budapest for next year 😊
We just got back from a 10 day trip to Iceland, London, and Paris, and I'm already doing some light searching for our next trip.
I hadn't been out of the country since 2012 and I want to go back as soon as possible!
Kristi--Iceland has won our hearts and we keep returning. I would love to hear all about your trip!
Arriving London May 19 - then Paros , Naxos ,Mykonos, Syros , then Paris , then Amsterdam , then London to fly home June 20 th !
Portugal, France, Netherlands; 132 days!
0 days--headed to Rome today, and next Tuesday I'll be in Budapest again for the 6th time AT LAST--it's been 4 years.
Yay, Christa!
We're down to 124.
Have fun, christa!
120 days until the UK, 190 days until Spain...it's going to be a long summer...
ITALY!!! 20 DAYS!!!
I've completed all of the Pimsleur language learning levels, read about 10 novels set in Italy in the last few months, and cannot stop myself from humming the Italian songs my parents loved so much!
Non vedo l'ora (I can't wait)!
24 days until we fly to London for 2 days. Then fly to Rome where we get on a 10 day Mediterranean cruise to the Greek Islands. We'll stay in Rome 2 days and head home.
My wife's having mobility problems but with a electric personal scooter we can get by on a ship.
Fran, I love Pimsleur. That's what we use whenever we go to Italy. (Or France, or Portugal, or....) You'll find it very helpful.
Buon viaggio!
Kristi--Iceland has won our hearts and we keep returning. I would love to hear all about your trip!
It was nice! I liked it but we essentially just had a 36 hour layover and while we got a taste of the country I very much would like to go back for a longer period. None of us (7 people) really slept on the flight over, so we were pretty exhausted. I am considering going in November for my birthday (the big 5-0) but then part of me wonders if I really want to go somewhere cold for my birthday.
Thirty days to go until departure on this trip to France, (Central France, Paris, of course, Alsace-Lorraine, northern France) ,
Germany, (Berlin, Munich, Ingolstadt, Greifswald, Koblenz, Flensburg, Kiel, Jena, Leipzig, etc), Poland, (ie, 2 side trips coming from Berlin by train and plus the night train from Vienna to Krakow. ) The rest is left up to any spontaneous whimsical decisions.
My countdown is finally under 2 weeks which means time to start the packing process. Nice, Lake Garda, Slovenia. Weird I know but hubby and I want to visit Nice one more time as we consider a move there.... Lake Garda to meet up with friends we are traveling with on a Veneto/Slovenia 10-day food and wine tour.
Our next short trip is Phoenix/Tucson tomorrow. However, I don’t count it as truly relevant.
Relevant- France for 45 days in 140 days.
My next trip is a bit of a mess.
EDIT: Decided, Budapest 6 August till 28 October. Havent decided on the side trips yet, but I am guessing at least 1 month of that out of Budapest. Maybe Slovakia or Montenegro or BiH.
Eleven days until we leave for the UK, then three days in Southern Wales on our own, then on to Bath to start the RS Best of England tour, followed by four days on our own in London before heading home.
120 days before I leave for Switzerland and 285 days before my trip to India (not looking forward to the long flight but still excited to be visiting.)
Finally down to 99 days until York and Edinburgh 😃
Bavaria in 137 days! Can't wait!
Traveler Girl

Happy travels
Ireland, England, Wales. 62 days for 29 days. Can't wait!
76 days to Washington DC, 260 days until Spring Training in Dunedin, Florida. We're still throwing out ideas for where to go in Europe next year.
65 days until London, Portugal tour, Basque tour, and more.
329 days (approximate; haven't booked flights yet) until Best of Poland, Best of England, and 12 - 15 days on our own in Italy.
845 days (definitely approximate!) until a tour of SW France, not Rick's.
Whoops, I remembered the tour ending date, not beginning. So approximately 830 days for SW France.
196 days. Southeast Asia 46 days
845 days (definitely approximate!)
OK, now I don't feel like a lone nut when I'm sitting here planning trips years in advance 😆
468 until out reserved for our RS tour starting in Paris.
Ok…you all made me load trips into my countdown timer!!
50 days to Aberdeen, Orkney and Shetland Islands
349 to Yellowstone
474 to Loire, Brittany and Normandie
665 for East Anglia
714 for my yearly visit to Yellowstone
830-ish for SW France
“OK, now I don't feel like a lone nut when I'm sitting here planning trips years in advance 😆”

Update:
27 days - Enumclaw WA for Scottish Clan Gathering, weekend stay
60 days - St Louis MO for nieces wedding, 4 days
95 days - Iceland and Portugal, 22 days
Heading to Ohrid,North Macedonia beggining of Jully and plan to stay there for 10 days..heard it is one of the cheapest European getaway destinations for summer 2023...and they say it is less crowded than Croatia and Albania..plus the prices are incredibly cheap...like a pint of beer costs 1,50 while a three course menu for two people is around 30 pounds...according to my friends who are there already..
58 days til we leave for 10 days in Ireland!
845 days (definitely approximate!)
OK, now I don't feel like a lone nut when I'm sitting here planning
trips years in advance 😆
Roubrat, I realized I had the tour date wrong, and just edited my earlier post. It's actually more like 830 days, give or take, until we leave. Fewer, if we take on something else earlier (like maybe My Way France?)
And this is so unlike us, planning something over 2 years in advance! We have never done that, but someone dangled a shiny object in front of me, and I pounced.
We did something similar earlier this year, but in the opposite direction, when we booked an almost last minute tour for February. Hmmm, maybe I'm loosening up as I age? Or more likely, realizing that the expiration date on our birth certificates is drawing ever closer.
Travel while you can!
53 days. 7 day Adriatic/Aegean cruise followed by 7 days in Bosnia/Montenegro.
"We have never done that, but someone dangled a shiny object in front of me, and I pounced."
Oh my....so funny!! And oh yes, I'd WAY rather have travel than jewelry, cars, etc!!
Travel while you can!
Exactly! It's not even always an age thing. Tomorrow isn't promised even to the young(er).
Well we are headed home tomorrow after being in England and Scotland for 41 days. Ready to be home. The longest we have been gone. It was fun and we met a lot of great folks. Two tours (not RS ) and lots of time on our own
Well we are off again end of November. Jane- that same person twisted our arm for another trip! Plus add the 830 ( now less) like Jane and Pam - we all will be on the same tour!
Glad to be home tomorrow
Kim
Kim, we can't wait to hear about your trip. I don't suppose you'll have time to do a scrapbook before our July 8 meeting?
I'll still be here for the August meeting, so I can wait until then. If I have to, Lol.
Jane-- "We have never done that, but someone dangled a shiny object in front of me, and I pounced." I am laughing because that is how we have decided on many trips.
roubrat--Yes, travel while you can! I am still pretty young (mid 50's), but am having TKR right after our big trip in August. I keep thinking about places we could go in the fall and winter and then forget that I won't be going anywhere until I am rehabbed. I have a feeling this is going to be a lesson in patience for me.
Flight prices have been keeping me to one trip per year-I envy everyone who can travel at will and take multiple trips.
9months until Mexico.
mikliz97, Kim - who posted above - had knee replacement a few years ago. As I recall, her surgery was in August, and the following May she and I and spouses went on a Rick Steves tour of France, and Kim did great! Mulptiple times climbing the steps at Mont-St-Michel!
Do your therapy, and keep your eye on the prize.
247 days until my first time to London!! (just booked, I know, waaaay in advance) 😁
120 days until Spain
54 days until York and Edinburgh
17 days to Yerevan, Armenia, 22 to Moscow, Russia, a month to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Tick tock.
Jane--Thank you! Yes, p/t is key and I am all set up with that. My therapist is about a 3-4 minute drive fro your house, and they come to our house for the first 2 weeks or so. I've had several other knee surgeries, but not TKR, so I have an idea of how hard p/t can be. I know this will be more intense though. I am so looking forward to traveling again after it!
We are at almost 2 weeks until we head to Iceland!
Paris and Lyon: 63 days.
Costa Rica: 168 days--first time. My husband and I are taking the whole family--two adult sons, daughter-in-law, and grandsons ages 9 and 7 for Christmas!
Great topic! Thanks for starting it.
Washington D.C. tomorrow ... G-d help me.
In 10 days daughter and i will spend 18 days in Indonesia
165 days . 6 nights Death Valley and Joshua tree hiking tour.
Scotland in 44 days, ending the 3 12 weeks with a Hadrians wall 4 day hike, and a couple nights in Dublin.
First trip to Europe since we moved back to US in 2020.
Less than a week to go!
Karen--That is very exciting! I hope you have the best trip:)

32 days until my Ireland/UK trip!
26 days until Washington DC!
33 days until NYC!

65 days to London & Bath
178 to RS Best Of Central Mexico
274 to Cuba
At the airport with my MIL awaiting our flight to Scotland. Meeting up with 8 other family members in Glasgow for her 80th birthday celebration trip!
5 weeks and counting. Best of Portugal, Basque Country, Macbeth at the Globe, and plenty of free time in France and the Netherlands! Whoop!
Is it too early to start counting my next trip to Italy? 283! : )
It's never too early! I have a countdown on my phone for London - 224 days.
55 days to Rick Steves Best of Turkey tour, lots of planning underway with the kind help of CWSocial and the Amazon delivery guys.
18 days 15 hours 35 minutes to my departure for Orkney and Shetland according to my countdown timer!
65 days until London
69 days until Kenya
121 days on my phone United app. Back to london, bath Oxford at Christmas with Seymour travels.
Pam….. can I fit in your suitcase to go with you back to Orkney and Shetland. Posts pics on FB!!
Kim
“Pam….. can I fit in your suitcase to go with you back to Orkney and Shetland. Posts pics on FB!!”
@Kim - 😉Well, I’m taking the Osprey 21” so how small can you fold up? And yes, I’ll post pictures on FB!! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the islands that much that you’d return!
50 days until 6 weeks in France. We aren’t quite ready yet.
238 until a spring trip starting in France, but mostly Italy
611 until a tentative trip to Wales
756 until a tentative trip for a multi day hike in Europe
I love having all the trips on Countdown!
@SJS-I love having my trips on countdown app too, but only add them after airline tickets are purchased or a deposit has been made. Otherwise, I feel like they are still just “ideas”
@diveloonie: Then I wouldn’t have my trips! Think the spring one will be real soon as ticket prices have remained the same for a few months.
I'm off to Ireland and Scotland, both for the first time, in 226 days!
My other trips aren't to Europe, but worth a mention:) Hawaii in 32 days and Mexico in 205 days
Berlin on September 29 - 61 days!
Basel on December 6 - 130 days! (just booked this one yesterday; I'm already mining the SW forum for information)
Lisbon on February 1 - 187 days!
I cannot believe how long this thread has endured!
19 sleeps until we have 7 weeks in Switzerland and a 7 night stay in Annecy. All mountains all the time!
I cannot believe how long this thread has endured!
😊 Last year this time I was counting down to my first trip in many years.
With the count down of the days from SFO, it is now 21 days to Paris. I've not been in Paris in August since 1987. The prices are indeed pleasantly lower than those I saw in June.
@kayla.p-if you see this-how are you doing this in Schengen? You must have an EU passport? Sounds great though.
I'll be back in Edinburgh in a mere 285 days, according to the Delta app.
Puerto Vallarta with friends for a week in October, then three weeks in Norway next June/July!
We just got back from 17 days in Iceland and have nothing booked for future travel. I admit I sound like a spiked brat, but it is hard as I always like to have something to look forward to. We had planned on the Netherlands this spring, but that may not be in the cards as a TKR has been delayed for who knows how long. So right now, I am even unsure of when I can get back to see/help my mother. Home projects just are not as fun as trips, but sadly for at least a month that is all I have to look forward to, lol.
1 day to Lake Winnipesaukee, NH
50 days to the previously postponed trip to France!
42 days to UK--mostly Scotland.
7 days , ie, one week from today is the take-off from SFO on that 11 hour Basic Economy, non-stop flight, this time almost exclusively Paris and France with a side trip of a few days in Vienna.
douglas, I remember when you posed about having to cancel your trip - it was around the same that I had to cancel mine earlier this year too. Glad we're both about to venture out again.
12 days away from 2 months mostly in Montenegro, Bosnia, Hungary, and Slovakia (with 5 nights on Korćula and 4 nights in Belgrade mixed in). I am ready!
Three weeks in Italy in October. Plan is to start in Milan, end in Rome. Venice, Tuscany with some combination of Lake Como, Florence, Bologna and/or others (?) on the way. It's only three weeks. I have plenty of time for Rome, Tuscany and Venice but not enough for too much more.
April '24 will be Spain for another three-week trip. Hoping to see some Holy Week and April Faire celebrations.
A year ago it was 274 days until S. Korea, May 2023. Did & Done. Up until 12 days ago it was Portugal & Spain for part of the Camino de Santiago in May 2024. Well 12 days ago I decided to treat myself to a week in Paris using some of my AMEX points. So as of today, 14 days before my arrival to Paris.
14 days; we're down to 14 days. The butterflies have found my stomach. I'm not ready! But I am so excited about going...
First stop: London, to see "Macbeth" at the Globe! Whoop! Then on to Lisbon for the RSE Portugal tour. And on from there...
I have 4 days until York & Edinburgh 🥳
I have 70 days until Spain
I have 197 days until London
4 days also!! To the British Isles for a month.
7 days, and I just found out our train from London to Luton, where we're boarding the plane to Lisbon, has been cancelled because of a strike!
Forum folk to the rescue, however. Ramblin' on found a tube/bus combo that should work for us.
9 days for a 4 month trip...Europe, Egypt, Turkey, crossing back on the QM2! Scored United Polaris on points for flight over.
I am leaving in six days for six days in Norway. Flying back to to Bergen, where I will take the express boat to Balestrand to spend five nights in the old part of the Kviknes Hotel. Then back to Bergen with an overnight before heading back to Paris.
I am so excited for some fresh fjord air and greenery and water views !!!!
My flight leaves in 25 hours!
Portugal (first time) October 6-21 with my wife, and Italy (third time) November 6-21 with two former colleagues who remain close friends. No particular reason that the dates are the same within the month...just happened that way!
2 weeks from today until DC and Baltimore. I haven't been to the US for a personal trip in 4 years. Is it still worth seeing? ;)
Allan, yes the USA is still worth seeing. Just wear your bulletproof vest!☹️
5 months until Spring Training in Dunedin, Florida, my thoughts are with those that are hunkered down in the region waiting out the Hurricane.
Hoping to see several exciting trip reports from all of your trips!
And to answer your question, Southern Spain - 150 days; Southern region of Italy - 245 days.
I’m going to Germany in 16 days.
Hoping to see several exciting trip reports from all of your trips!
I second this!
As I mentioned above, my travels are limited right now due to knee surgery. I did buy airline tickets yesterday though to go see my mom in December. Not a vacation in the usual sense, but at least it is something.
I am still looking at The Netherlands, but am hoping to move that up to about January or possibly February before I do the other knee. We hoard our miles and it is time to start using them. My husband isn't so keen on this, so I will see if our daughter wants to tag along. I just want a week to wander and have a change of scenery.
My second time replying to this thread. First time was August 22, 2022.
Completed the Turkey and Caucasus trip and the Panama and Colombia trip. Also threw in a trip to New York. The Norway trip was swapped out for a trip to Scotland. All were fabulous.
Coming up:
It seems so far away, but 5 months until Amsterdam. I just booked it today. I am having TKR in a couple weeks, so wanted a short getaway after I am rehabbed a bit.
Less than a month to London and cruise to Lisbon from Southampton.
I have been working on this trip (as many on this forum knows) for over a year.
Thirteen months from now, I sail from Haifa to Istanbul. Expect some postings (and questions) about this one beginning November / December.
Norway. Today!
Have a great trip, mnannie!
Happy for you, douglas. Have a wonderful trip!
We leave tomorrow also for a month!!!!
Tomorrow I'm off to Edinburgh and then to London to meet the newest raven, Rex.
Christa, how do you know the ravens name? We will be in London for 11 nights in 3 days and on my last visit to London (24 years ago), I didn’t get to see the ravens at all, so it’s a MUST this time.
France and Ireland - 100 days!
Tammy, you can ask about the raven Matilda and if she is still at the Tower. When we were last there, she was stealing food from children who were sitting on a bench (eating a bag of crisps) in the grass of the Tower grounds. We were up in the White Tower, looking out the window with one of the Tower guides. He got on his radio and said "Have someone come get Matilda." He explained she had been behaving badly and might be taken to The Farm. I guess that's where the Tower ravens go who behave badly.
Uhh...are these ravens flying around unrestricted where visitors are? 😨
I've just done some googling and YouTubing and it's borderline terrifying (yes, I have a bit of a bird phobia. Thanks accidentally watching The Birds when I was 4 years old, and thanks being attacked by a magpie when I was 15 years old).....but no way I'm not going to The Tower of London when I go next year.
Mary, I will report back about the ravens. I think they are in one area of the tower, but will see.
Thanks. Have a great trip!
The ravens are walking around on the ground, mainly. It's my understanding their wings have been clipped a little, making short hops up into a bush possible, but no, they won't be flying around everywhere.
Most of them are kept in cages at the Tower.
3 or 4 of them are out walking around.
There is a Ravenmaster at the Tower; that's his only job.
He and the Beefeaters keep the ravens from bothering visitors.
Thanks, Rebecca.
I have 8 weeks until I go see mom. Seems so far away. Then 8 weeks after that is Iceland and Amsterdam. All of these will be very different than our usual trips. These will be low key and moving slow. I had knee replacement on Friday so these are the carrots dangling in front of me for motivation to do the p/t etc.
Leaving for Barcelona in four days! Can't wait to get there, but as always, it will be over WAY to soon. 😞
I’m going home to Seattle, tomorrow (currently in Istanbul).
Next trip is 113 days later, in February. Two weeks in Colombia.
We are going to Amsterdam, Budapest, Vienna, Prague and Berlin for three weeks. Leaving in 205 days.
I'm down to 21 days until Spain. 148 for London.
100 days till we take our first Road Scholar tour to Central Mexico
143 days until we go to Fairbanks for Northern Lights
196 days to Cuba
227 days for Utah’s mighty 5
Tammy, how was London?
8 days until my flight to Prague. Got to admit I’m a tad nervous/apprehensive which is not at all like me. But first solo trip to Europe since Nov 2019 might have something to do with it. I’m sure I’ll be great once I get on the plane, right 😬?
Mary, we have one more day in London. Everyday has been a Wow! We love it and feel very comfortable and at home. 11 days barely scratched the surface. We hope to come back and spend more time.
That's so nice to hear.
San Antonio, Texas in 9 days. 18 day holiday in G-d"s Country then home to Budapest.
Going on the RS Greece tour in Early April.. about 180 days from now. I spent some time in Athens about 20 years ago on an extended business trip. Loved it and can't wait to go back and see the country.
Corsica and Sardinia!! Counting the hours ;)
Just booked Norway for 10 days in late August!
Poland! 207 days, probably. We haven't settled on a definite date range, nor have I looked at flights. Yet.
We're booked on the RSE Best of Poland next May, as well as the Best of England in June, and are planning a couple of weeks in Italy in between the two.
Finally, 1 day left until Spain! 🤗 I've been wanting to go for so many years and was sad when I had to cancel my trip there in March. 24 hours and counting....
Mary, have a wonderful time in Spain. I hope you do a TR, as we are planning a first time visit to Andalucia region in February 2025.
Thanks, Tammy. Will definitely do a TR. Andalusia is a big part of the trip.
28! Heading to Germany (Saxony) and Prague for Christmas markets and much more. I don't know how it can be less than a month away...seems like October has flown by!
Budapest in 14 days. No big surprise, huh.
We are going to Japan on Nov. 10, to walk the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage path with MT Sobek. We were in Japan with them in November 2019 for a different path, the Nakasendo Trail, and the trip was so great, and the fall colors were so gorgeous, we wanted to return. The pandemic intervened, but now Japan is open.
In the meantime, our daughter who lives nearby is due to give birth to our grandchild any day now ( or actually any minute), so we will busy once that happens. So I need to start packing.
London in 27 days! I wonder if they decorate for Christmas there….. 🤣🤣
I am catching up on this thread today.
It is nice to read some of the old posts of future trips that are now past trips. I remember reading some of the trip reports.
The last time I posted here it was August, 2022 and I was counting down to my first trip to Paris in September, 2022. Oh my gosh, I am a different person now! I am now a person who loves Paris! Thanks to DH for convincing me to go to a place that I didn't want to go to. (I will do something nice for him today, I think)
Since going to Paris, I have been to {Paris, Normandy, Rouen, Liege, Luxembourg} in May, 2023 and PNW in August, 2023. {Inside brackets are the cities we slept in or will sleep in, not all cities visited}
There are 191 days until my first trip to Japan {Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Miyajima, Osaka}.
There are 311 days until my next trip to Paris. I used miles and $91 for my flights, so I am very pleased about that. Paris has stolen my heart and I am pretty sure I will keep going back there.
Going to CA to my moms in 2 days. It will be my first trip with my new knee, so will be interesting to see how that goes.
Not me, but my husband has a very exciting trip for this summer. He was accepted to be part of an adventure expedition and will be sailing a 68' yacht from Iceland to Greenland and back. The expedition is a couple weeks long. I was able to book his airline tickets using miles too, so that was nice!
I love this thread! Let’s keep it going!
65 days for our first Road Scholar tour to Central Mexico
165 to Cuba
193 to Utah National Parks
No dates yet, but Italy in the fall
Honolulu in 65 days. Looking really hard at that RS Prague-Budapest tour. Or the shorter Ireland tour. Whichever I can convince my spouse to take.
Next European vacation isn't until July 2024 when we will hit the Netherlands (maybe Belgium, too) and then a Norwegian fjords cruise. Still planning those details, but 200+ days to go.
After that, further out, is a Hong Kong - Singapore cruise including Thailand and Vietnam, so need to plan pre and post-cruise travel. For that, it's a year away, so plenty of time.
Short term, we usually have US stuff in the works and on the books. Next up, we'll be taking our trailer out for a week at the beach during the Christmas-New Years break. I imagine cold and windy at the Delaware shore, but it should be peaceful as well.
Mexico is February 2024 and Vietnam April 2024--busy working on both itineraries.
Exactly 90 days until we leave for Taiwan, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
17 days and I will be flying to Paris for 8 days! Signed up on the spur of the moment last week when I saw it was on sale. Also got cheap airfare too.
186 days until I fly away to Poland for the Rick Steves Best of Poland tour.
13 more days til london and bath in Seymour Travels tour! This will be our 3rd with Mark and Liz
110 days until London
180 days until I leave for Scotland. This feels like a milestone in the countdown.
NancyG, those nice rounded numbers feel like it's closer, somehow.
Mary, yes, and it’s also halfway to 90 days, which is the point where the trip shifts from dream to reality in my mind and I start to focus on preparing for it.
365 days to go.
A year from now we cruise to UK. Then spend most of 3 months being vagabonds in Europe. In Feb 2025 we cruise back to the states. Our budget travel dream trip.
I’m in CA and was supposed to fly home yesterday. I had to extend the trip and realized I was so flustered that I bought my new return trip for the wrong week! I almost didn’t realize it, but when I did Alaska Air was great at refunding it. But the short notice one way fare home was tough to swallow. I am supposed to fly home Saturday and really hoping I don’t have to extend again. It’s only 3 more weeks until we are due to come back to CA.
120 days until 6 weeks split between France and Italy. Then I will stay for language school for an additional 4 weeks. Almost everything in place.
FRIENDS! I (finally!) have an official countdown to my husband's and my first trip to Europe together, to belatedly celebrate our 20th anniversary (it's his first trip ever to Europe, and my first in over 20 years); 3 nights York, 7 London, 2 Windsor:
311 days! 🤩🇬🇧🤩
Tomorrow, I get to fly home. So ready for it!
Hannah: Yay!
I finally bought plane tickets for next year, so for us it's 161 days: Best of Poland tour, 2 weeks on our own in Italy (Venice and Florence,) Best of England tour, followed by 12 days on our own in England (York and London.)
Jane: thanks (!!!) and what an incredible trip you're counting down to!
Portuguese Camino is planned for April and flights have been purchased.
16 days walking from Porto to Santiago di Compostela, starting 3 April. This is Camino #6 for me. As you may notice, I am addicted, but it keeps me fit in my old age.
So, a little bit less than 4 months to wait.
My plans have change from a RS France to Poland tour in September. I haven’t weeks in Mexico in February and I can’t wait to get out of here!
75 days until London
288 days until Budapest and Vienna
We just booked our first Viking cruise, but its not till 2025, so I haven’t added it to my countdown app yet.
It leaves out of Tokyo and ends in Hong Kong. My husband will finally be retired, so we are also adding some time in Seoul, South Korea and an additional 2 weeks on land in Japan. I don’t know if I can wait!
Only 27 days till our Mexico trip!
Currently back stateside visiting family, so technically our next trip to Europe is our flight home. We don't have firm plans, and of course little weekend trips and short notice things and local festivals are on the agenda. However, we are looking at a Baltics trip this summer. No dates or exact plans. Just kicking it around and starting to plan.
Next major trip is probably NZ in May. Campervan probably focusing mostly on S.Island. Probably only 3 weeks due to grandkid responsibilities.
36 days till Naples, FL
84 days till London (5 weeks in England).
397 days till Egypt and Jordan
144 days till Gdansk, Poland for the Rick Steves Tour.
256 days till Rick Steves Eastern France 🇫🇷 Tour
Just booked airlines yesterday. 143 til our Rhine AmaWaterways cruise, week on our own in Belgium, then Seymour Northern England tour.

I'd love to read a Trip Report about that. The Rhine cruise has been on our list for years.
41 days until Spain (3weeks)
80 days until Portugal. Walking my first Camino. (20 days)
21 days until Iceland and Amsterdam
224 days until Norway. I had the flights books a couple months ago, but just got the rest of it booked this weekend and now it feels real!
12 days until a week in Swedish Lapland with some friends from work, mainly around Kiruna (just inside the Arctic Circle lol!) fingers crossed we'll see some Northern Lights, that's been a dream of mine since I was young 🤞
181 days til we leave for a 12 night Mediterranean cruise. We start with a few days in Barcelona. The cruise ends outside of Venice, so we’ll spend a few days there, and then go to Milan where we fly back to NY. Can’t wait!
58 days to Spring Training with the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida. It can't come soon enough, it's -29C at home home right now and will drop to -37 tomorrow night.
93 days until RS Portugal tour, Yay! and then 230 days until Village Italy tour. I need these things to look forward to!
227 days until a month plus in Tuscany. A few days in Amsterdam on each end
25 days until San Diego to unthaw from the latest Winter storm in the PNW
I'm envious of all the multiple overseas booked. Happy travels
58 days to Spring Training with the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida. It can't come soon enough, it's -29C at home home right now and will drop to -37 tomorrow night.
Allan, it's negative degrees here, too. Luckily I leave for Naples, Florida in 2 days and I cannot wait!
Then 60 days till I leave for England for 5 1/2 weeks.
I'm now down to just 32 days to London. Hopefully Punxsutawney Phil is onto something and it won't be too cold. Still a long 245 days until Vienna and Budapest.
A little over two months until Vietnam.
Ms Jo and Paqngo--Buen Camino to you both! I am hoping to do the Frances in 2026 (retirement!).
A week till 4 days in San Francisco Bay Area for Super Bowl Sunday gathering. Been a 49ers fan since Y.A.Tittle was QB! ( Google )
GO NINERS!
My second response on this thread. My previous post didn't all go exactly as planned. But I'm hoping my current countdowns will all come true.
16 days til I leave for two weeks in Oaxaca, where I'm doing a Spanish immersion program.
49 days til I leave for Fiji, Australia, and this tour of New Zealand.
166 days til I leave for Africa (Cape Town, safari in Botswana, Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe, great apes in Rwanda, and you name it in Kenya)
242 days til I leave for Rome, followed by this tour of Greece, Albania, and North Macedonia, followed by Naxos.
303 days til I leave for this tour of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
Three weeks to Mexico for two weeks.
Poland September 15.
8 more sleeps until Taipei, Vietnam, and Siem Reap, Cambodia!
BB, can’t wait to hear!
We just got back from a Road Scholar trip to Mexico. Now, 83 days to Cuba and 256 to Italy!
100 days until our next trip! RSE Poland, two weeks on our own in Italy (Venice and Florence,) RSE Best of England, then about 10 days on our own in York and London.
I am now allowing myself to get excited. Which also means terrified at all I still need to do before we go.
But I am truly excited about seeing Poland again. We actually lived there for a few years in the 1980s; things have certainly changed since then!
BB, that trip sounds wonderful! How lucky to get to see Angkor Wat.
I'm excited to read about all these Poland trips. It's on my list for next year.
87 days until London & day trips and Yorkshire (?). Still finalizing our week out of London.
10 days until Japan!! Can't wait!
London. To meet my newborn granddaughter.
One day.
Mary, what a fun thread. So many trips. It is giving me some inspiration to branch out from Europe.
Barbara, I see you're looking into Japan soon-ish - me too! 🙂
Italy in 67 days and hoping for Paris and ? in the Fall.
Trying to figure out a tour in '24 for two weeks in The British Isles. We have all the books. Have read all the books, and still its a challenge to see what we want to see in an itinerary. Is there a grand tour already done? We want to be based in London. I'm thinking we will take a train to Edinburgh on the East Rails, and back to London on the West Rails. Then spend the rest in London with day trips. But it gets complicated. Some times, i just want to wing it.
Just got back from a trip to SE Asia 2 weeks ago. Planning my next travels for Sept (most likely Japan).
22 days - Charleston, Savannah, St. Pete
108 days - Albania, Montenegro, Split (mother/daughter trip)
210 days - (return) Italy
We just got back from Iceland and Amsterdam a few days ago.
A new trip just popped up for early June to the OR coast as well as Silver Falls State Park. My entire family and my brothers will all be together again. We used to take big family vacations together when the kids were young, and are starting the tradition again now that the "kids" are all in their 30's.
Boston = 96 days
Home for a week then off to . . .
Italy = 96 days
Home for a coupe weeks then off to . . .
Indonesia = 128 days
We are back from a month in Granada, Sevilla and Madrid (December 2023). Just starting on where to go next time. As usual, we would like to find a place to settle for 2-4 weeks and add some day trips or long weekends on either end.
Dijon, Beaune, Strasbourg?
Sarlat, Bordeaux?
Parma, Verona, Venice?
Another milestone in the Scotland countdown today: 90 days!
115 days to France followed by Germany. Paris hotels staying 16 days , already booked, three 2 -star hotels in Paris Nord ranging from 94 Euro to 112 Euro.
This time Paris, Grenoble, Lorraine (Nancy, Luneville, Metz and environs), Normandy , Lille and environs, Maubeuge, etc.)
Germany....Middle Rhine area (Bacharach, Kaub, Bad Ems, ), Berlin and Potsdam, obviously, Nürnberg, Greifswald, Hamburg,
Prenzlau, Ingolstadt.
More detailed planning goes on.
Fred, very nice trips but how are you getting around Schengen?
For me, I leave in 25 days for London and 5 1/2 weeks total in England. Starting the pre-pre packing now!
We got back a week ago from 2 lovely, relaxing weeks in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. This was a consolation trip, after we had to cancel our Feb trip to Egypt and Jordan. That was heartbreaking, but DH had his visa application denied. (Canada and Egypt are currently in a spitting contest over visas and entry requirements). I was tempted for a minute to go without him, but then sanity prevailed.
We've just booked a 12 day Scotland tour in September - starting in 203 days. We'll continue on our own for another 10 days or so in England; most likely York and London. Because I can't go to the UK and not have at least a few days in London.
2 days until London! About time to start torturing my husband with this
Mary, that's the perfect seque because London is calling me in .... 71 days. Mardee, I'll just be picking up where you've left off!
... and 156 days until Gdansk, Stockholm and (I'm so excited) my return (after 2 years) to Istanbul!
... and, as of last night, 248 days until I return (after 20-ish years) to Spain.
... and 394 days until my return (after 40-ish years) to Greece, then on to Albania and my return (just 1 year) to N Macedonia.
I'm so excited to have 4 trips on the calendar. I think that's a first for me!!
Flying from Melbourne to Christchurch April 29. Sent my passport renewal through 10 days ago and passport office have informed me the morning it is in transit.
Only spending 19 days away as we help out alot with our 3 youngest grandkids, twin girls turn 1 today, and a grandson turns 4 on Thursday.
We will pick up a van from Christchurch and probably start with a drive across Arthur's Pass then head south to the Alps. Still fine tuning plans and it will be flexible throughout.
@ Mardee.....My trip starting in May and ending by 1 August, or thereabouts, will last 10 to 11 weeks all within the Schengen zone. Not going over to England on that trip. Fantastic....your trip to the UK will be taking off soon !
CWsocial, I'll get the tea and scones started for you and Mardee.
Oh, thank you, Mary, that's very kind of you indeed!!
53 days to Cuba
226 till a return to Italy (40 years)!
London, 60 days.
Ireland 47 days. First time to Ireland. First RS Tour! Can't wait!
Traveler Girl
199 days until Budapest and Vienna. 🧭✈😧
Vietnam--23 days
Ireland - 33 days! Getting excited!
59 days before Poland, Italy (Venice and Florence) and England. Starting to fret about filling the holes in the travel arrangements. And figuring out how to handle mail and newspaper delivery for almost 60 days.
Mo'orea, Tahiti. Leaving Easter Sunday.
Should be lovely
Less than a month to go, first time using Seymour Travels and going to the Cotswolds for 10 days. Our guide is a former Rick Steves guide, so it should be fun!
30 days until ......
.... Oklahoma city. Ok, I know this thread is under General Europe, but a vacation is a vacation!!!
Fantastic thread, Mary!
Eleven days until we fly to Amsterdam! We will have a few days on our own, never been there before. We will celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday, and then we will take RS Best of Europe tour, then fly from Paris to Glasgow for RS tour of Scotland. My bag is packed. It’s starting to feel real, this was in the works since last June….how come I don’t feel ready?😂
Taking the 12 year old granddaughter on an Alaskan cruise as soon as school's out.
Been to Europe well over 20 times and we've seen most all of the big cities 4-5 times each. Only place we've missed is Lisbon. I was in Europe 2x last year and did mission work in Israel-=not knowing what we were doing was getting ready for refugees.
2 days to go!! France for two weeks then Italy for 9. Still trying to get everything into a carry on back pack and one small checked bag. Have to check-have hiking poles! I’m stressed.
Just booked a girls trip to Iceland for September! A friend has been asking me to take her and Icelandair was having a sale so we booked it! I can't wait to be back there:)
45 days till I leave for Scotland!
34 days until southern Italy! I’m at the tail end of my trip planning and all critical activity tickets purchased. Nothing is waking me up at night as a “need to do”.
By the time I leave, I am hoping for the weight of my Cotopaxi packed to be a net zero. : ) In other words, I have been losing weight and eating much healthier, so the 13 pounds of my pack should equal my weight loss this Spring by the time I am getting on the plane.
]Just in time to gain 13 pounds of Gelato weight!
Mary, you guessed my strategy! LOL!
Years ago I used to come back from trips and had lost a couple of pounds. Now I’m just happy that it doesn’t show any gain.
Jean, that is incredible ! Good for you !
I have booked train tickets to London for mid-June for about five days for me and my husband. Hotel prices -- even Premier Inn -- were hiiiiigh, so I am very glad that three different sets of friends offered us to stay with them !!! Gosh the difficulty of deciding which free lodging to take someone up on!
pAstelholic, have a great trip ! I hope you enjoy the RS Scotland tour !! Looooove Scotland so much.
20 days until we fly to New York for my husband’s medical school class 50th reunion. After that we make the “short hop” across the pond to London, for some theatre-binging, a few days hiking in the Peak District with HF Holidays, and lots of strolling St. James and Hyde Parks to enjoy the spring blooms. Several London Walks booked as well.
I think it is time to start laying out my wardrobe in the spare bedroom, finalize dinner reservations, and put together my “travel book” with paper copies of our schedule, play tickets, train tickets, etc.
11 days to Vietnam. Just got my typhoid shot this morning---starting to feel real.
11 days to southern England to Cornwall trip. Guest bedroom is taken over by travel stuff too, Lola. Happy chaos turning into well organized travel gear I hope. Even though I truly dread the 9 hours plus on the silver tube getting to London, I’m pretty excited to be going.
We leave in 21 days, Keukenhof for two days (a return trip!) then to Sicily for RS tour! No packing yet, just planning!
Not Europe but the S.Island of NZ. 25 days.
Uzbekistan, next week.
Vietnam--tomorrow!
Can't wait to hear about it, Pete! Enjoy!
5 weeks. 5 weeks from today. Best of Poland, Best of England, two weeks in Venice and Florence in between. I'm not ready.
Edit to add:
15 days. I'm even less ready. I need the other parts of my life to step back for a few days, and let me get ready for the trip.
30 days till Scotland!
RS My Way Spain followed by RS Basque tour, departing April 25th.
Solo trip to Portland, OR in one month.
Then nothing until a Viking cruise with my SIL, her (and my husband's) niece, and another lady friend. Budapest>Passau, right after Labor Day. I'm going a few days early to Budapest and we're spending an extra two days in Munich before flying home.
Only 8 days until we head out for Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. Yikes! I'm feeling both excited and nervous because I'm not sure I'm ready.
Faroe Islands in July!
Remagen antique market Saturday, Stuttgart Spring Fest Sunday, Solingen next weekend, Aachen on the 26th, Bavaria, Austria, and Alsace for 2 weeks in June, Warsaw for July 4th, Southern France in Sept.
10 days till I leave for Glasgow and Edinburgh.
@MorganMurphy, my nerves are kicking in too.
Two days until I head down to OR to see friends and family.
19 hours before boarding for London...and I have about 24 hours worth of home and travel tasks before we leave!
Cheryl
19 days till Rotterdam and 2 week cruise up the coast of Norway.
103 days till Croatia, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
Starting to pack, hair appointment, last minute items that need to be ordered, etc. getting excited too.
12 days before flying out of SFO, 23 days before arriving France and Paris. The organised and disciplined packing is already underway, making sure I'm not remiss in getting the chores done ...period.
It's creeping along slowly, but I'm finally < 5 months. 149 days for Budapest/Vienna. Sigh.
Three months to southwest Germany! Can’t wait!
WALES? 127 Didn't think I'd be posting again, so soon. We arrived home from London 5 days ago. This weekend while visiting daughter in Seattle, we booked tickets to join them on a trip to the UK in October (deja vu/last October/Scotland). Wales may be our focus this trip.
I’m back from Scotland and not planning any more big trips for a while. But I’m looking forward to a little one: 109 days to Philadelphia!
We leave in 52 days for the RS Munich/Salzburg/Vienna tour. Looking forward to it!
124 Day until we fly to Munich for three weeks in Bavaria!
Traveler Girl
Anyone have 2025 plans yet?
We are going to Andalucia, Spain in February, but don’t have flights purchased yet.
Then a 5-6 week trip to Asia-South Korea, Japan and China in the fall.
112 days until Budapest/Vienna.
Anyone have 2025 plans yet?
Yep! 269 days until Rome/Florence/Venice (flights and hotels are booked)
2024--Only big trip remaining this year is Myrtle Beach, SC in Sept (in-laws time share location)
2025--next year has a lot of potential, but will see what happens: Mexico (Jan-Feb), Tennessee (wedding, May), Grand Canyon (Thanksgiving, 60th BD), Guam and Philippines (December).
Hoping for India and the Grand Canyon in the first quarter of 2025, but let's see....fingers crossed!
Edit: Realized that I did not answer the original question of the post yet so here goes:
15 days to Lassen Volcanic National Park
30 days to Savannah, GA (wedding)
60 days to Pennsylvania (another wedding)
90 days to UK (Bristol/Dorset/London)
115 days to Sequoia/King's Canyon National Parks
Lovely thread and I'm enjoying seeing all the travel destinations!
Tammy--Funny you should ask about 2025 plans. We are doing a road trip up to AK and back. It will be the first time for us to go somewhere besides Fairbanks and the bush!
Anyone have 2025 plans yet?
Booked a river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel for May and then will spend a few days in Colmar. Fall of 2025 is TBD have London to Bamburgh as a definite maybe, also eyeing the RS Sicily tour but the Canadian dollar keeps dropping vs. the $US making the trip even more expensive.
FINALLY!! 250 days to Rome for 9 glorious nights. Last international trip was May 2019.
Anyone have 2025 plans yet?
Working with some of my homebrewing and craft beer friends to do Munich's Oktoberfest, Bamberg (becasue it's Bamberg!) and Stuttgart's Volksfest in September 2025.
On, and leaving for Germany in 6 weeks to vist Annafest (a Kellerbier festival) in Forcheim and to visit two of Germany's beer brewing abbeys.
2 weeks Greece + 4 in SW France, leaving in 88 days!
90 days until Budapest & Vienna
248 days until Italy
286 days until a solo trip to York and Edinburgh!!! UK, here I come!
Woohoo, Hannah!
Well in a few more hours it'll be 53 days till back to the UK. Ironbridge, Manchester & London. I've at least avoided the cars, but I couldn't avoid the deputy that showed up yesterday with a jury summons.
VAP, in a few hours it will be 53 days (October 2) for us back to the UK!
51 days until 24 days in Bavaria! Is there an easy way to count the days in my Android calendar app?
I have 10 days until Norway and then 39 days until Iceland.
I received a summons for jury service. Here, it's that one receives a letter informing that you're in the pool for a year term and to register with the court. If you're called the deputy delivers the summons.
23 days till a month in the Baltics followed by a couple of weeks in Budapest!
Anyone have 2025 plans yet?
Tammy, you are funny! I may be biting off more than I can chew but in 146 days, I leave for 4 months: New Zealand, Tasmania, Dubai, Vietnam, Japan.
TTM-4 months? Wow, exciting!
33 days-To Vancouver WA for 65+ USTA PNW tennis Sectionals for a chance to play at Nationals.
42 days-Road trip from Oregon to Nevada and Utah for hiking and sightseeing in Great Basin NP, Bryce Canyon NP and Zion NP. We'll have a heritage stop in Eureka NV and see ancient Bristlecone pines in GBNP.
May/June 2025-We're returning to Greece for a week on Naxos and then a Wonders of Epirus tour with Apostolos Douras. We were on a 2024 RS Athens and Heart of Greece tour with Apostolos and are really looking forward to Naxos on our own and Epirus with Apostolos. We have three hikes scheduled with Stella Korre on Naxos.
Aug/Sept 2025-Taking a 6 day Shetland walking tour with Hidden Hebrides and then returning to Glasgow for the RS Best of Scotland tour. Had to start thinking about this trip quite early to coordinate the two tours.
@m2s2wilson-We had Apostolos for our Athens & The Heart Of Greece tour in 2019. He was awesome and we get his emails about the trips he is doing in Greece. Would love to hear about it on your return! Enjoy!
I've got 53 days to Paris, then out to Fontevraud-l/Abbaye for Mark Seymour's Loire Valley, Brittany and Normandy tour with more time in Paris at the end. I'm reading The Longest Day in preparation. I've seen the movie dozens of times and had gotten the book for my brother for Christmas. I've been saving it until closer to the time so that is NOW, lol!!
320-ish for Orkney and then Shetland again
415-ish for SW France and the Pyrenees
607-ish for East Anglia
795-ish for Marcher Castles of Wales
2027????
Is there an easy way to count the days in my Android calendar app?
travelerguy, I use an app called Vacation Countdown on android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kulana.tools.vacationcountdown&pcampaignid=web_share
Mary, I just use the Delta app, lol! That gives the days until check-in.
Just booked my flight today for London and Paris with two of my grandkids. 227 days to go!
I'm heading to Grand Marais, MN for 5 days in early December, then possibly Romania in the fall of 2025. Japan is tentative for 2027 (trip with my daughter).
I do that too, Mardee! But when I'm in that app I keep going in and looking at my seats for no reason. Yes, they are still there.
33 days Budapest & Vienna
190 days Italy
253 days Denmark
2 days: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Budapest.
Mary, message me if you are up for coffee, lunch, dinner, or wine one day. Looks like we may be in Budapest at the same time!
10 days to France.
Coming back on 2 Aug and seeing that favourable price offered by United re: SFO to Paris CDG on the overnight non-stop flight in Sept. r/t , I decided to take advantage of this occasion to spend another week in France while still keeping a few days away from the Schengen limit.
This time with its good weather the entire week will be spent in Lorraine while staying in that 3 star hotel for 70 Euro in Metz. That in itself is incentive enough to go.
45 days Italy
170 days Andalucia, Spain
391 South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong & Taipei (6 weeks)
I do that too, Mardee! But when I'm in that app I keep going in and looking at my seats for no reason. Yes, they are still there.
Hahaha!!!! Well, I have to confess I take a lot of sneak peeks at my seat to see if anything better has opened up. Although Delta can be a little sneaky sometimes, and won't notify you of chances. So it does pay to check!
2 days: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Budapest.
TexasTravelMom, didn't you just get back, lol?! Have a great trip! Hopefully you and Mary will get to meet up!
Fred, sounds like a great trip! Enjoy!
Tammy, how long will you be in Italy? It's been so long since I've been there!
Okay, here's my latest:
93 days till Grand Marais, MN (it's only 90 minutes away but it's 5 nights so I'm counting it!)
204 days till London and Paris
Just got back from Norway on Friday night and leave in 2 weeks for Iceland.
We cancelled our Christmas Market trip, so the next trip is not until summer. That will be Iceland and Greenland.
Mardee, Italy is only 2 weeks. One more year till our youngest flies the nest, then I will be like TTM!
Wednesday (!!) I am leaving for Budapest to join a Viking cruise on Sunday. The rest of my group will join me in Budapest on Friday afternoon. We're spending two days in Munich at the end of the cruise.
This trip has been planned for a year and it has seemed like time slowed to a crawl this past week.
Next trip for me is Sarasota - my husband is celebrating his retirement by slowly roadtripping with the dog and his senior Georgia Park Pass from Atlanta to Sarasota over about ten days before Thanksgiving. I'll fly down and meet him there at his sister's, then ride back home with him.
Then the first week of December, a quick trip to Dresden via Berlin.
Nothing planned after that, but several ideas percolating.
Happy travels all!
Well, we have just now hit approximately one year until our next trip. Spain and France in September/October of 2025. Our dates aren't set yet, but we have a Rick Steves tour that begins Sept 15, and a Mark Seymour tour that ends October 23. We'll have about 10 days between the two, and of course want to go early and stay longer! Stan wants to end up in England, he told me last night. So it'll be something like early September until November 1, or thereabouts.
Happy and safe travels, all! Post trip reports and hotel and restaurant reviews when you get back.
@ Mardee....Thanks. I plan to do exactly that since the focus is on one area Lorraine and I'll be revisiting towns, Luneville, Nancy, Verdun and couple others where my exploring and visit the first time was not to my satisfaction, ie not unfinished. I'll see what Tourist Office says about taxis going out to sites, ie war and historical sites, not covered by public transport.
13 days now until my Japan trip.
LOL, Mardee! I supposed to stay home? Someone forgot to tell me!
Tammy, you need better goals. LOLOL.
Greg, I want a trip report after Japan!
kayla.p and Fred, have fun !
28 days until we leave for Bavaria. Glad my calendar is packed pretty full. It will make the days go by faster. Not that I want to wish my life away, but waiting for a trip to start is hard. Guess I'd better start packing and checking things off on my trip preparation lists.
Pondering over where we want to go in 2025 and beyond.
Happy, safe travels to all!
Traveler Girl
38 days 'till England (David Gilmour Concert at Royal Albert Hall, Bletchley Park) and Barcelona/Montserrat/Sitges.
161 days till Sardinia, Tuscany, Venice.
Mardee, I too am counting destinations that are only 90 minutes away: 12 days till Philadelphia!!
Nancy, great minds think alike! Philadelphia will be wonderful!
I bought tickets today into Stockholm and out of Copenhagen, between October 5 and 20. Will revisit the capital cities - and friends in each -- at beginning and end, and go somewhere in the Swedish or Danish countryside in between.
Tomorrow! Iceland for a week with a girl friend.
I just added another trip when I booked my very first tour with Gate 1—a 12 day tour of Romania in September of 2025.
So now it's 188 days until London and Paris.
And 372 days until Romania (and possibly other parts since I'm going to tack on a week).
About 3 1/2 weeks until Barcelona and a Mediterranean Cruise. Working on this for almost a year and here we are.
4 days till we leave for Paris and RS Heart of France tour and then Lyon and Beaune on our own. Big birthday is imminent, wine tour in Burgundy for the Big Day!
50 days until Spain! 15 nights between Toledo, Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba and Madrid. First time visiting all of these cities except for Sevilla - I went there on Semester at Sea 40 years ago! And I still remember that cathedral....
With family weddings on the calendar, our travels are on hold until late 2025. Researching ideas for Christmas 2025 followed by a month in England in March 2026, I think!
16 days to Italy
141 days to Andalucia, Spain
362 to Seoul, South Korea, Tokyo to Hong Kong Cruise and 2 weeks on land in Japan (our first longer trip after retirement)
9 hours 28 minutes!
We got 10 inches of snow so I am dreaming of my upcoming trips!
36 days till we head to our place in the desert
92 days to Andalucia, Spain
313 days till 6 weeks in Asia-mostly Japan, but also Seoul and Hong Kong
I've been home 13 days and already counting down to my next trip.
218 or so until I return to Orkney!
Reservations for 2025:
Super jealous Pam.
Our Orkney/Shetland trip in April 2020 never happened for obvious reasons. It is still on the radar but will probably need to wait a couple of years. Next year our 4yo grandson will be starting school. We live under the same roof and I will be doing the school runs next year (I recently retired).
There is a school bus but the nearest pickup is 5 km from our place. The school will have a total of 15 to 18 students next year across prep. to 6th grade, great little school.
I would be thinking 5 to 6 weeks at least for Scottish Islands and perhaps visiting friends in Ireland as well. It is usually around about 36 hours from our place to anywhere in Europe so we need to make those trips good long ones.
So what is next for us.
May this year we finally got to do our Southern Alps/Fiordland NZ trip. It had been put on hold for a year due to moving house, childcare for the above and birth of twin granddaughters.
Great 3 week trip with zero glitches and can't think of a day that wasn't really enjoyable. Very inexpensive too. We are easy to please and low needs.
So in May next year we are planning on hitting the North Island of NZ. We will stick to 3 weeks, anything longer would be problematic re the school runs.
We will stick to the same travel style as for the last NZ trip and our August 22 Western Australia trip.
Hire a self contained campervan, use mostly campgrounds with a handful of freedom camps. Targeting mostly scenic areas generally dodging the cities. Total spend with airfares hopefully under $AUD8000 (about $USD5000), we were well under that for last 2 trips.
I am keen to revisit the Bay Of Islands where I visited in 83 and the far north.
Also the Taranaki, I ran a marathon there in 83 but didn't do much sightseeing.
The Tongariro NP and the Rotorua region and also Hobbiton are on the short-list too.
Anyway hope all have good travels.
Cheers.
