We are planning a "general Europe" plan for April or May. Easter is April 24. Does anyone know when Europe breaks for the holiday/spring vacation? Many thanks.
Europe is a big place. Made up of MANY countries. Are you asking about school breaks (as in elementary schools? or colleges- if so I am not certain if they have the same "spring break" tradidtions as the US) Even within one country, like the UK, there can be several different answers (Scotland is on one schedule, England on another, Wales another, etc).
Here is the website where you can check all the school holidays for the next few years for each Land in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. As you can see, they will vary considerably. All the Lands in Germany stagger their vacations........................http://www.holidays-info.com/School-Holidays-Germany/2009/school-holidays_2009.html
Many thanks for the quick replies. Very helpful!
In France, the weekend before easter and the 2 weeks following are very busy with holiday travel.
Last year Portugal's school vacation was the week after Easter.
You guys have been so helpful! We have booked our "general Europe" trip for May so I expect we'll be fine. We'll begin in Venice and end in Rome and from there go to the Netherlands for a bit. Should be wonderful!!!! Thanks so much for your help.

Advised school holiday for primary and secundary schools in the Netherlands is April 30 - May 8, 2011. April 30 is a national holiday (celebration of the queen's birthday), May 4 (evening, commemoration of war casualties) and May 5 (liberation day) are quite busy days as well.
