The big question is, where in Switzerland, and what activities have you planned? If you stick to the cities, you probably won't need anything different from Paris, but if you want to go hiking in the mountains, you'll need some rain gear, and maybe hiking boots and a hat and gloves.

Hi Megan,

I just returned on 3rd October from a holiday in France/Germany/Austria/Belgium/Italy.

Germany was the coldest, around 12-14 degrees. I feel the cold, and I needed a fleecy jumper and a medium-warmth jacket. Also wore a scarf most of the time.

Half our luggage was left behind at Dubai airport, so I bought a medium-thick jacket when I landed in Germany cause 2 jumpers wasn't enough.

Italy, Belgium and France was beautiful, about 18-25 degrees. Sunny and warm, some days I had 3/4 pants with a tshirt on. Other days I had jeans, tshirt and jacket. I took a jacket to Paris but only wore it on our sightseeing bus, it was warm walking around but really cold on the bus in the afternoon when it turned overcast.

My tips - Take 1 pair of 3/4 pants or light pants for those few warmer days. I wish i'd taken my thongs for a couple of days, as my closed-in shoes got sticky on hot days. I wore my thermal shirt once and regretted it once it heated up during the day. Definately take a thick jacket (maybe not a ski jacket unless you're skiing) and some fleecey jumpers to go underneath. When the weather turns overcast, it can get cold really quickly.

Layer layer layer!! Take things that you can wear at once, or take off during the day. Invest in a good jacket, and you'll be fine.

Have a great trip :)
