I want to buy an ipod to use on the plane when I go to Greece in October. I want it mainly for podcasts and some music. What would you recommend?

I have fell in love with my iPod touch. Not only is it a great music player, but it's ability to connect to the internet via wi-fi is excellent. It basically does everything the iPhone does except making calls.
The iPod touch lets me type out emails at anytime, keep them in the outbox and then when I have time scan for some free wi-fi spots and send them. Not to mention all the other applications you can get for it now from games to phrasebooks to maps. Love it.

I had the Ipod Nano and my wife had the Ipod Touch. Pete's comments are on the mark re: the touch. The Nano was fine but not remarkable. I had some TV shows and movies on it as well - but still the Touch has a much bigger screen which makes that sort of thing more enjoyable. The WIFI part of the touch is one of the main reasons I bought it for my wife and she really likes the calendar function.
I just got back from Ireland with the ipod touch. It was great to be able to use the wifi which I found most hotels and B&B's had for free. If you like to listen to audiobooks, you can check them out from the library, add them to your itunes and then to your ipod. Very easy to do.
One little suggestion for new iPod touch owners: Be sure to keep the wifi turned off when you are not using it. It's a battery killer.
Oh and this reply was added using my iPod touch! ;)

I will add my vote for the iPod Touch. It is fabulous! But if you just want music and podcasts then the nano is good. it also plays movies and shows. I love both of them.
Betty Lou,
I'd also highly recommend the IPod Touch. I replaced my older IPod Nano with the Touch several months ago, and it's an amazing device. The Wi-Fi feature works well, and I was surprised at how easy it was to adapt to the (relatively) small screen. It's great for short E-mail's, once the small Keyboard is mastered. Showing photos to others using that beautiful screen is fantastic (assuming they want to look at them?).
If you are thinking of buying an IPod Touch, I'd suggest getting the most memory you can afford (32 GB if possible), as loading movies especially takes up a lot of room. Also, a good quality protective case is important as the unit could easily be "dropped" or damaged. I bought a silicon (rubber) case, which both protects the unit as well as making it easier to hold and more difficult to easily slide out of a pocket (minimal protection against pickpockets).
If you're going to travel without a Laptop (ie: no way to recharge the IPod), you might want to consider a travel charger such as the Sonnet model. I've been using one of these Chargers for several years while travelling in Europe, both with the older Nano and now with the IPod Touch, and it works well.
I decided to try a backup power solution as well, so there would be no problem watching movies on long flights. I recently ordered the This Model from APC, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. It appears it will also power other USB devices, so might be good for my Cell Phone or other devices as well.
Good luck with your decision!
My sister, cousin and I all had the Ipod Nano on our trip and they were perfect. We could store podcasts and enough music to satisfy us for 6 weeks. Also, get a protective cover for $20 at the Apple store, otherwise all the traveling might scratch it up.
