We will have a car for a week and want to visit some of the small beach towns of southern Spain (Andalucia area). We pick up the car in Seville and drop it off in Granada. Can anyone recommend some of the small beach towns (or otherwise) to see and places to sleep? This will be mid-Sept. Thanks!
Your best bet for small beach towns is on the Costa de la Luz - essentially from Tarifa up to Portugal. On the Costa del Sol, it's pretty much wall to wall resorts. We went the opposite direction of your trip but basically our stops were Seville, Jerez, Cadiz, Chiclana, Baelo Claudia Roman ruins, Tarifa, Gibraltar, Ronda, Antequera, and Granada. We loved Seville, Jerez, Tarifa, Ronda and Granada, we felt they were all good choices for a stop. We were glad we stopped in Gibraltar, the Baelo Claudia ruins and the Dolmen in Antequera. We were disappointed with Cadiz, it wasn't as as nice as we expected. There are a lot of remote beaches along the stretch while others have services and lodging. We spent some time at Barossa beach in Chiclana; it's similar to a southern California beach - wide beach with very nice white sand. We also liked Tarifa because you could walk down the beach and find a little cove to yourself that's sheltered from the wind.
As above - you would be going back on yourself if I were to suggest anywhere beach wise. Scores of interesting places between S. and G. if this truly is a week and you are prepared to deviate off a straight line - see - http://www.andalucia.com/province/home.htm or look at the map and 'google'.
