I am planning a cruise in 10 months for 2 passengers with a cruise cost of about $10,000 total. I am the primary caregiver for my elderly mother, who has been in hospice for over 3 years. If she is still alive, I will need to cancel my trip. Do I need a cancel for any reason policy? Since she has been in hospice care for over 3 years, is this a pre-exisisting condition / chronic condition? Thanks!
I'd do a compare on something like Squaremouth.com or insuremytrip.com pick a few then call to talk directly with them. Your situation is specific so best to get targeted advice.
Sending you heartfelt good wishes!!
Adding: you need to address this sooner rather than later.
Most Cancel for Any Reason policies require you to purchase within a few weeks of first money being paid out for the trip
Most cancel for any reason generally only refunds about 70% of what you paid. You really need to read all the fine print. Good luck!
There are some tours and cruises that will offer their own CFAR policy, so you might want to check into that. I'm taking a tour in the future with Overseas Adventure Travel, and they have their own policy you can buy. I'm not saying it's the cheapest and it probably isn't, but according to OAT, it offers "100% cancellation protection up to and including the day of departure and coverage on your trip. This also includes baggage coverage, medical benefits, assistance and emergency evacuation, and more."
So it might be worth seeing what your cruise company offers. Again, it may be more expensive but it might cover more.
Recently took OAT tour with their insurance. My understanding is CFAR is offered as voucher from OAT itself, for non covered reasons not reimbursed by the Allianz (my policy, but check who they’re currently contracting with) travel insurance (travel and medical) portion of the policy.
See if you can “transfer”, NOT “cancel “ your cruise for another future date, and how late before final pay/sail date can you do so?
You can also ask on Cruise Critic forums, your specific cruise line and/or the travel insurance threads.
