What Travel Related or Inspired Christmas Gift(s) Have You Received This Year?

I saw at least one thread discussing gifts to purchase for other travelers. Have your friends and loved ones gifted you with travel related items? Is the gift something you will enjoy?

My Mother-in-law, herself a traveler years ago, gifted me a Paris 2022 calendar. (I had a September, 2020 trip to Paris that was a victim of Covid-19). My husband and I don't typically exchange gifts, but he got me a Milton and Bradley, 952 piece 3D puzzle of Notre Dame. I love the calandar. I will let you know later about the puzzle, it depends on how hard it is and if I can successfully work it without the pieces being stolen by our cats.

A gift from me to me. Haha. I scored a Black Friday deal on some Bose over the ear noise canceling headphones. It’s an older model but that’s fine with me. My older pair is getting a little worse for the wear. I couldn’t imagine long haul flights without them.

After indulgent gelato on our Italy trip this fall, my husband and I have treated ourselves to a fancy Italian “frozen dessert” maker. We’re fixing a batch of fig & walnut ice cream today, with gelato, sorbet, sherbet, frozen yogurt, sorbet to and granitas to come. I know we won’t be piling it into tub-overflowing mountains like some gelaterias do (the ones I avoid), and getting good ingredients is going to be essential. So is staying active enough to accommodate a scoop or two, now and then!

Oh, vandrabrud, if any puzzle pieces go missing, they may have gotten put in the Paris cat-acombs.

Clever Cyn!

I have received several travel books and maps. "Back Roads of Great Britain" by DK Books looks pretty useful.

Plus a really nice L.L.Bean tote bag which will serve as a carry on for the trip to England in the spring. If it happens.

You will just LOVE "Back Roads of Great Britain"...

Nigel, thanks.

vandrabrud, as you know, the small puzzle pieces will be irresistible to the cats. They will have to knock them off the edge of the table with their little paws. I used to have a Maine Coon cat who took small objects to her "stash" of stolen goods under a bed. Another cat simply put all objects down the air conditioning/heat vents in the floor. Another cat put objects in the toilet. Good luck with your puzzle. I hope none of your pieces end up in the toilet; that would be a cat-astrophe.

We celebrated last night. I received a puzzle that has an arrangement of 6 photos taken on our Iceland trip this past summer. My husband received a Yeti cooler, so that will be perfect for family camping trips. I ordered a bunch of stuff from Iceland, including a few of their Christmas beers, an I was able to get one of the brewery Christmas beers from Denmark as well. Our son studied there, so he was thrilled! In my order was the famous Icelandic hot dogs, the special sauce and the fried onions. The kids were very surprised and very happy about those.

Hahaha...to the cat jokes!

I'm not getting any travel items that I know of - have not opened gifts yet, lol...we are just on to coffee and cinnamon rolls here in the White Chistmas-land of the Inland Northwest. It does not look like there is a guidebook to Kauai anywhere under the tree, though, lol!

BUT I am reading this to decide what I might want to order for myself later today, lol!!

Hope everyone is having a lovely day and that we can use all the travel items!

Well, I combined the two threads by adding ideas from the other to this year’s wish list and now have the 16-piece mesh zipper pouches and the lightweight iPad stand (multi-purpose!). Both things look like they will be as useful as I had hoped!

No presents for us this year, as we have just completed our kitchen and family room renovations.
That's our present!
I have enough travel gear to last me the rest of my days anyway!

Eyewitness guidebooks coming out of the ying yang and I love it. Mexico City, San Diego, New York City, Great Britain, SE England and an Italian phrasebook.

Also, we have our Scotland 2020 replanned for June and coincidentally both my wife and I went with some Scottish themed ideas. Tartan pj bottoms for me and a tartan covered travel notebook for her. Both came wrapped in tartan gift wrap.

I received a bar of Icelandic chocolate from my brother, who went to Iceland this summer for a bike race, and some mini travel candles from his family that they bought from a small vendor during their August Hawaii trip.

I bought a copy of Jan Morris's "The World of Venice" for us, and made sure there were Belgian chocolates in Stan's stocking.

Ooohhh, Jane. I want your Santa to come to my house!

Did actually get a travel-related present! It’s a Petzl headlamp and will be useful for my trips to Yellowstone. I’m thinking it will be handy for a late Nov/early Dec trip to England and France for Christmas related activities and markets. If the weather is bad and I need to light my way I prefer to have my hands free.

My son gave me a beautiful turquoise scarab pendant, set in gold, on a gold chain that he bought at the Louvre museum gift shop, plus many other things from Paris. And I gave him many gifts all bought in Paris this past Oct. We had a Very Merry Paris Christmas today! 🎄

vandrabrud, you should also play some board games with your cats-they love to move the pieces around. Our cat used to love to play the Pandemic game-needless to say, we haven't played it in the past 2 years.

Oooh! Such great presents mentioned in the last 7 or 8 posts!
I love my maps of England.
Large (4 ft. wide by 5 ft. long) maps by region, each one covering about 2 counties.
"AA Road Map Britain" is what they are.
Several maps covering all of England and Scotland.
Great for trip planning.

I love hearing about everyone’s travel inspired gifts! My husband gave me canvas prints of Aosta and the Berner Oberland, made from pictures we took on our trip this past summer. I gave my husband a fondue pot and made Swiss-inspired fondue on Christmas Eve.

Great topic! Love the comments!

Last year after a canceled trip to Reykjavík my husband was really disappointed. To cheer him up, I ordered an Icelandic sweater from the Icelandic Knitting Association.
This Christmas I ordered an Irish hand knitted sweater for him from Aran Sweater Market in Killarney Ireland.

Happy Boxing Day!

I received a beautiful glass tree ornament of a US passport complete with boarding passes tucked inside. It's made by a company called Old World Christmas. They have several travel related ornaments {suitcases, backpacks etc.} they really are pretty.

I got a leather and cloth wine tote for two bottles with space for a corkscrew and more. We travel mostly by car here in Europe and have been carrying one-two bottles in a cloth or plastic shopping bag along with mineral water. A little self conscious carrying them into hotels, but this is perfect.

Santa brought my husband and I good lightweight rain jackets and a Rick Steves calendar that is hanging on our fridge now.

I ask for a travel themed calendar every year. Got one for Provence this year. I also get a small page-a-day calendar for my desk at work. Last 2 years have been the Rick Steves' one but for 2022 I opted for the 1000 places to see before you die calendar.

I also received World Travel by Anthony Bourdain (published posthumously) and also Cameron Hewitt's book. I am reading them slowly so as to prolong the enjoyment.

Happy Holidays to all.

I received an Italian food gift box with pasta, sauces, snacks, and olive oil from a company called Tasty Ribbon. Such fun!
I received some travel-related gifts for my recent retirement as well: personalized passport cover, two kinds of luggage tags (one travel-themed and one Star Trek-themed), a pocket notebook, and a RS silk neck wallet that I've been wanting. I haven't used it yet, but hopefully will later this year in France and/or Italy!
I also bought myself several items from the RS store sale, including the street map of Paris and the Hide-Away Tote bag that I've wanted for a few years.
Good luck with the puzzle, sounds like a challenging one!
