What to see in Prague, in Three Days

I will be spending 3 days traveling solo in Prague(August 20-22). I am trying to decide what to see and what to skip, given that I have such a brief stay, in the city. I enjoy history and art and cold beers:) Any suggstions on sites to skip and sites that should not be missed. I willing likely be using the tram system
and wonder how I can best organize each days without feeling rushed.

The Steves' guidebook on Prague does an excellent job in laying out a three day sightseeing plan. You might review that and come back with specific questions. The tram system is cheap and easy to use.

Rod, Prague was actually the first and only city I've been to where I paid for a tour guide. I was there a few years ago for a conference in Brno and was only able to spend a couple days in Prague. I hired a private guide for two half-days and I absolutely loved it. The guide is actually the one who recommended two half-days rather than one full day and that worked out great! It gave me time to be introduced to the sites each day, but to then have lots of wandering around time on my own-absolutely essential in a town as full of history and sites as Prague. Normally I'm a "do it on my own" type of traveler, but given the short time I was there the guide Šárka Ka?abová really helped me to see things and understand Prague (awesome city!) in a way I never could have on my own. Anyway, I'd highly recommend her! http://prague-guide.info/index.html

Monday see the Jewish Quarter - old cemetery, synagogues, museum. It's about 1/2 day. Because it's closed on Saturdays, Sundays tend to be much more crowded. The Charles Bridge very early in the morning, before the hordes. One day for the Castle and Hradcany - the other side of the river.

I really enjoyed the castle and found the tour of the Jewish quarter to be very interesting. I went up the tour in the main square and loved the view. I also went to the Mucha Museum and would recommend it if you are interested in art nouveau. I want to second the suggestion to check the Charles Bridge out early in the day. It was as crowded as Times Square when I visited a few years ago. Lastly, I would recommend having lunch or a meal up at the top of the hill on the Castle side of the river. We walked up toward the monastery and found a great restaurant that was outdoors and we could sit and look out over the city. It was not cheap, but the view was a million $$$ one. Pam
