What to pack for a trip from end of March to April?

Hi guys, this is my first europe trip, and I am not sure if I have packed enough clothes.

I will be arriving in London end of March, then a week in Paris, then another week in Rome. Right after easter I will be at Munch and Berlin for a week, Prague for 2 days then back to London again at the end of April.

I have a semi-waterproof fleece, a knitted sweater, a jumper and a few long sleeves T-shirts, 2 pairs of jeans, and a scarf. As I will only be bringing a 60L backpack, I dont want to bring too much, but not sure if my gears will keep me warm for my trip in europe.

thanks,
Sonia

Hi Sonia,
I might consider not taking a jumper and packing another shirt or sweater to layer for warmth. Just a thought...

I'd also consider a truly water-PROOF coat (with hood) instead of a semi-waterproof fleece. Not only will it be better at keeping out the rain, but it will also better protect you against the wind. There's nothing worse than being wet on a windy day....and cold, damp weather will go right through to your bones if there's a breeze.

I have found a breathable waterproof shell very useful for variable conditions. It keeps you dry but won't get as steamy and clammy inside as a non-breathable one. Just get a shell and it to your layering arsenal. Does not take up much room at all.

I would also pack lightweight wicking long underwear, as a hedge against cold. Again, very compact, helps keep you warm and dry, but won't make you sweat indoors.

Spending so much time in the major European cities, I think you should pack a more dressy wardrobe than t-shirt, jeans and a sweater. The recomendation for black slacks (and shoes)at the very least, is a good one.

The only thing I would certainly have any time of year in London is a good waterproof shell and waterproof walking shoes. All of your warmth can be done with layering but you need to stay dry to have a chance of being warm. I prefer to pack multiple light layers that can mix and match rather than heavy items.

I was in London & Paris at the same time last year. The weather can change by the hour. Keep a hat, gloves, and scarf with you at all times. Wool socks are great. Jeans will be hard to wash in your room, so if you can wear something else that would be better. I do understand that you may only want jeans. (You young people!)

You'll find lots of great scarves in stores there. They'll expand your wardrobe and make great souvenirs.

Ditto to the rain/wind proof jacket with hood. Dump the fleece, jumper and knitted sweater. Take another pair of pants in black. Take a hat and gloves and good walking shoes. With the walking, you will generate your own heat. If you get cold, you can buy a sweatshirt and have a souvenir to wear.

I'd pack a couple of T-shirts and a pair of capri pants. We were in Rome in early April 2007 when a warm spell came through - it was 80 degrees.
