What to do in Faro

Hi Rick,
Your Portugal guidebook says nothing about Faro. Is it not worth seeing. Helena

Rick does not respond to questions on this site so you have to make do with lesser folks. The fact that Faro is not in his book means nothing other than he chose not to include Faro. He makes it very clear that his guidebooks are not comprehensive in that he has chosen the locations that he prefers to highlight. You might see what other guide books say about Faro. Then go yourself and see what you think. We have been to lot of places that are not list in his guidebooks and general are very please with what we have seen. One advantage is to not being in his guidebooks is that the place will not be overrun by tourists carrying the blue and gold guidebook.

Two days is about right, maybe a day and a half. If you're looking for a destination, a week with a couple of outings to the west or to the interior Algarve would also work.

Faro and the Algarve region are big vacation areas for the British. It's like going to Florida for them. My niece that lives in London has an ocean front condo down there, and they often fly on EasyJet for a very low price.
It's about 175 miles south of Lisbon.

There are some interesting spots on the area, such as cliff-hanging beaches or, if you fancy a short half-day trip, the "Ponta de Sagres", the traditional point where the Mediterranean joins the Atlantic and which used to have a traditional (some say folkloric) navigation school on 14th and 15th centuries. The place offers nice views of the ocean surrounding it.
