What stop should we add in to our France and Italy trip?

Hi everyone. My husband and I are planning a September 2017 trip to Italy and France. In September 2015, we visited Rome, Florence, and Venice. We absolutely fell in love with Florence for the friendly people, great food, wine tasting, beautiful buildings, and people watching.

This upcoming trip we're planning on spending 2.5 - 3 weeks in France and Italy. So far our plans include 5-6 days in Paris (with a day trip to Normandy included in that), 4 days in Florence and further exploring the Tuscan countryside, and 2-3 days in Rome. We've already hit the big highlights in Florence and Rome, so this is just to further explore. We're planning on an open-jaw ticket flying in to Paris and out of Rome.

My question is - should we add another stop (French or Italian Riviera, I've been to Cinque Terre before but he hasn't) or just spend more time in one of the major cities with more daytrips? If daytrips, any suggestions on where to go?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know whether you've been to Paris before, but if not I'd suggest giving it more time, at least a week or 10 days. There's a lot to see and do there, plus Versailles, Chartres, Giverny, and other easy day trips. And I'd also say a day trip to Normandy is too rushed. Try to spend at least a couple of nights there with a full day between, or more.

If you've been to Paris and really want to spend so little more time there, then I'd suggest a visit to Provence or the Riviera (French or Italian) depending on your interests. Take a fast train from Paris to the south, and another into Italy. Or rent a car on the outskirts of Paris, drive into Burgundy for several days, drop it in Lyon (also worth some time), and train to Italy.

Personally, I would have to stop on Lake Como. Between Varenna and Bellagio it is some of the most beautiful sites I've seen in the world
