What's App for iPad

I am wanting to download a What'sApp for my iPad.

I have gone to whatsapp for ipad free in the Apple Store and there are so many choices that I do not know which one to download.

Mainly I am looking just to make calls, text, message videos, and pictures.

I have also downloaded a what's app to my android smart phone. I will need data when I use it. is that correct? I will have to have mobile data on.

On my iPad, I also have Messenger, facetime etc and I guess that those can be used also as long as I have wi fi.

I believe WhatsApp is only available for iPhone, not iPad.

It's not available for iPad - yet. They are beta-testing it now. I think you might be able to use the WhatsApp website, though? Not sure...

as I mentioned in your other thread, iPad (any iPad) is not yet supported by an official WhatsApp app.

The iPhone one is, for several generations of iPhone, and Android phones and some tablets are supported.

you only need data or internet when you want to use the app. You don't need it if you don't need to know who or when a message or other communication arrives. I have mine on 24/7 so I can get calls anywhere, and know when I have received a communication because it pings on arrival. I do keep it silent during Sleep mode.

Same thing with Messenger, Facetime, Skype.

I am on my iPad and have gone to the app store.

there is a filter "whatsapp for ipad free" and then there are several options to GET

I have not downloaded any because I was waiting for Forum to tell me which one is the best one for me to download.

One option is Whats Web Dual Messenger App and another is Messenger Duo for WhatsApp and then there is about four more

I will be glad to test one out if someone could suggest which one

Can someone mimic what I have done and advise me

If you could, go to the App store on an iPad and type in "whatsapp for ipad free"

Ok Nigel,

so what is an official WhatsApp app as opposed to an unofficial one?

Are the ones available for iPad all through a third party. And is an official What'sApp app through Facebook?

Truthfully, I find this very complicated and confusing. Maybe I will eventually understand.

And the following I do understand. Thanks for your help.

"you only need data or internet when you want to use the app. You don't need it if you don't need to know who or when a message or other communication arrives. I have mine on 24/7 so I can get calls anywhere, and know when I have received a communication because it pings on arrival. I do keep it silent during Sleep mode.

did you see that all the apps which sort of look like Whatsapp logo in the iPad App Store have in the fine print purchases within app, in other words, not free and not released by WhatsApp. You will pay a third party for what should be free.

Several of us have tried to explain this gently - I just don't know what else to say.

You will only get the third-party apps when you are in the App Store on your iPad. This is because there is no WhatsApp for iPad right now. If you have it on your phone, this should be all you need?

Nigel and others

Thank you. I am going to let it go because I do not fully understand and find it confusing and complicated. I apologize. .

Maybe once I begin using the app, if I do, I will understand. If i use it on my phone, then I will have hands on experience

I will keep it on my phone and delete it from my iPad.

Nigel, I do not know if you noticed but some fraudster posted a very strange link on this site having to do with what's app earlier. It was reported and by now I think removed.

Everyone, thank you for trying to explain What'sApp to me. As said, I am keeping it on my phone and deleting it from my iPad. If I ever use it, I will let all who "gently" tried to explain it to me know and I will review my experience with What'sApp.

I am not good with apps or with smart phones. I once had an iPhone and was good with my iPhone but I can no longer afford one. However I am thinking about investing in the SE.

UPDATE

Well, I now better understand What'sApp after this discussion and after a sit down with a friend. I sort of feel embarrassed because it was really not as difficult as it felt to me in the beginning.

I sort of feel stupid and I may decide to delete this entire discussion. However I may leave it up because it might help someone else who is not as tech knowledgeable as some others on this site.

Most persons who are very active on this site are very tech savvy. Not all "old" people are.

I do not believe that What'sApp is going to be very useful to me but I might be wrong.

I find whatsapp very useful when I'm in Europe. Many businesses have their whatsapp phone number on their cards. It makes getting in touch with them by phone very easy whenever you have a wifi connection. Sometimes it's the only sure way to get hold of someone - your hotel for instance.

I really only use WhatsApp to communicate here in Vienna. No one sends text messages. No one really calls anymore. But given the comment above I wanted to share that my “WhatsApp” number is just my usual phone number. It isn’t necessary to have a separate number for WhatsApp.

No, please don't delete it, it may help others & I'm sure many have a hard time keeping up with tech stuff! I would add that Whatsapp, which is owned by Facebook, is known for safe, double encryption, a nice feature. AND I would never download a 3-rd party Whatsapp app, I don't trust it. Just keep it on your phone! I encourage my friends to join Whatsapp so I can send photos while traveling without doing it to the group, I can write a short message over the photos & they receive it individually.

Would you believe?

I just got an email from my friend in Portugal who has rented a hotel room near me in Lisbon We have not seen each other since San Francisco 1960's and she asked me "do you use what's app"

so this was a very productive discussion. You never know.

I am headed out for an event so to be continued

What’sApp is very popular in Europe. All of our contact with apt rental owners always is on WhatsApp. All communications within Europe.
