what kind of camera?

I just bought a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 with 10X zoom. It's highly rated, very intuitive to use, I love it! I chose to buy 2 8GB memory cards, an inexpensive card reader, & a thumb drive to save back up copies of my pix.

Gail,

I'm not sure what your question is? You've already purchased the Camera and you "love it", so that's good.

I'm a bit unclear on how you'll be backing up photos to the Thumb Drive using only a Card Reader? What size (capacity) is the Thumb Drive?

That type of Camera typically leaves the LCD powered all the time (same as a P&S Camera) and with the powered zoom you'll probably deplete the battery fairly quickly. I'd highly recommend travelling with at least one spare battery.

Cheers!

If you use an internet cafe to send pictures (e.g. to facebook or flickr) or to perform your backups, remember, when you plug your memory card into the computer there, flick the write protect switch before inserting it. A memory card is a "disk drive" just like any other, and CAN be corrupted. (That's the voice of experience!)
