What it’s like for Rick to film his TV shows

Many of us know what it’s like to watch Rick’s TV episodes, and he even made one several years ago showing what his 3-man team goes through to make them, but now the Washington Post has done a story on the process, with Rick filming a one-hour London special for next year:

Edit Or, if that link stymies your access to the article, there are other options - read some responses below.

I hadn’t realized that Rick’s long-time Producer/Director (and frequent on-screen dining companion), Simon Griffith, had retired, but the new guy has stepped (or, leaped) into that role. One other tip from the story: Don’t follow Rick in London when he’s crossing a street!

Cyn unfortunately that story is only available for WP subscribers. Several of my RS guides mentioned he is similarly enthusiastic doing guide book research and that they were exhausted trying to keep up with him.

I was just now able to read the story with no subscription. Keep trying. It’s a good one.

Without a subscription yesterday, I’d tapped and swiped around on my iPhone screen, and eventually, somehow, the article popped up from behind the subscription paywall.

Today, I did a search on “Rick Steves kid in a candy store” (part of the article’s title, and a quote in the article), and the Washington Post article came up. Touching on that result, an offer to read it for free (by entering my e-mail address) came up. Try this link: https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2025/08/21/rick-steves-europe-behind-the-scenes/

I’m glad that Luv2Travel and Going234 also found ways to get the article yesterday. Of course, someone could always subscribe to The Post :)
