What do people use for a washcloth?

i was wondering, do people who are backpacking typically just use their RS towel as a washcloth (i have the extra large size which is bigger than i expected) or would you bring something else like the extra small towell and just use that? i don't know that i like the thought of using a days old towell i've used to dry off with on my face . . .

I usually just bring a small washcloth for face drying only.

i guess when i think about my normal washcloth it always dries before the next morning - so i guess it's not a big deal?

We also use the x-large Rick Steves' travel bath towels and buy smaller cheaper travel towel and cut them to size for face cloths since they dry fast.

A package of Handi-Wipes (washable thin cleaning cloths) works grat. They are inexpensive, dry very quickly, and do not take up room. If you forget it, no big deal.

Go to Kmart or Walmart ( or just about any "Marts") and walk over to the Auto car wash accessories and you can pick up an entire WAD of micro-fiber car wash towels for the price of one "Travel Towl". The come in different sizes color choices may be limited.

I can't tell the difference, and they work exactly the same as the high-buck towels. Please don't tell anyone, OK ? It'll just be our little secret...

He means a bundle. You can get packages of multiple towels for cheaper in the auto department. I also bought the "Absorber" towel that I use for swimming in the auto department for much cheaper than a "Sami" (which is the exact same thing, only smaller) from the sporting goods store.

Lisa – I take a package of Olay Daily Facials Lathering Cleansing Cloths (or a generic brand). Just wet them and they’re great for removing make-up or washing up. They’re disposable.

Our approach is simple -- we don't use wash cloths.

I also use the Olay Daily facial disposable cloths that I buy in bulk at Costco. They take hardly any room to pack. First I wash my face, then rinse the face wash out of them, then lather up with soap for the rest of me. I don't have to deal with drying wet washcloths this way. I've been using them at home and traveling with them for years.

My wife brings daily facial clothes in a zip-lock bag. They have soap/cleanser in them so you just get them wet to use. I'm not sure if she uses Oil of Old Lady or another brand. She cuts them in half and uses half a sheet once to twice a day. After use, they are disposable.

I think Rick sells the wash cloths like the towels. I took some of the facial cloths to use as handi-wipes but threw them out as they have a gummy feel on your hands. We purchased the plain wipes to use to clean our hands before eating or just used the little 2 oz bottle of hand sanitizer.
Good idea to go to the auto department. Now I want to go shopping to see what you are talking about.
I like a washcloth to use in the shower to wash my body off.

We are such a disposable society. What kind of message does that send to people we encounter on our travels? I think travelers should also be thinking green especially in more rural parts.

Llisa, you might have a look at the Clean Kit offered in Rick's travel store. It includes two Microfibre Wash cloths as well as some Travel Soap in a handy zippered case. It might be what you're looking for?

Happy travels!!
