How do you browse the Rick Steves message boards? Do you look at the Classic View of the Helpline? Do you subscribe to the Live Feed? The way I browse, if the title of the post doesn't interest me, I don't read it, and I don't see what's in the message. If you use the Classic View or the Live Feed, you see the message in addition to the title. Let's talk about it, and maybe some of us (me, particularly) will have Eureka moments and get out of our usual browsing ruts.
I have an old, slow PC, and don't like to spend time waiting for the display to appear after I've clicked on something. This is what works for me:
I usually have a weekly look at new posts/replies, if any, under "Planning & Packing" on the Graffiti Wall, opening each category under a new tab in my Firefox browser (right click, then left click on "Open Link in New Tab" in drop-down dialogue box). If there are new posts that interest me, I open them in new tabs also. I close the tabs categories after choosing all the posts to read , then move on to the next tab.
I usually read the Travelers' Helpline every day, opening each message board in a new tab (General Europe, Transportation, To the North, etc.). I read through the lists of posts that are new or have new replies since I last read the board, opening the ones that interest me in new tabs.
By using this method I don't waste time waiting for my slow computer; by the time I've finished with the first tab there are several others waiting for me to open them.
If you enjoy browsing this way, you can open all your favorite Graffiti Wall and/or Helpline tabs and bookmark them in Firefox (control, shift, D). Then the next time you visit the Rick Steves site, one click will open tabs for your favorite boards. I've bookmarked a tab group for my favorites under "Planning & Packing" and for my favorites under the "Travelers' Helpline". I put them in a folder on the Firefox toolbar and named the folder "Rick Steves", of course.
