Hello. Is there any information on Serbia and Macedonia? The history alone seems to topple quite a few countries on the list - 17 Roman emperors have come from the area of Serbia which is second only to Italy with probably the most famous one being Constantine who opened the door to Christianity and had the capital of the Byzantine Empire named after him. And then there is the birthplace of Alexander the Great and the beautiful Lake Ohrid in Macedonia. Have these countries been visited and how can I find out more travel info on them?
I am going to bet you have a lot of the answers. The ancient history is facinsting. Let's not forget the Iron Gates. The modern history is tragic and current ... well, I just cant get comfortable there. I have been and I did try. Not on on my return list, although I have several dear Serbian friends, one a B.Ball coach.
I also suspect you know what you are doing by referring to a current country as "Macedonia". Enough strife in the world already we dont need to needle the sensitive subjects.
But North Macedonia is on my list and I might get there next year.
Regarding the name, in my personal experience people in/from North Macedonia tend to call it just Macedonia. The name change was mostly done to ensure Greece did not block their application to join the EU as Greece also has a province called Macedonia and they want to differentiate it (to put it into the most simple terms possible). Up until not very long ago it was still called the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. There are/were a lot of disagreements between Greece and (North) Macedonia including who gets to claim Alexander the Great. But I won't say anymore lest it become political- and I certainly don't take a side in this.
very subtle Mr É.
I was going to point out that the username contains the americanized spelling of a Serbian family name and the question may not be as honest as it may seem.
It may, however, be trying to highlight why these countries don't have sections in the forum list, I would guess because it was originally based on the contents list of an old guidebook. But that's really a matter for the admin staff not the forum members.

Exactly.

me.crewe. so you understand being suspicious of first time poster. With regard to the other comments, I think I will respect the treaty which ended a long lasting argument that came close to war. There is, by treaty, a difference between "being" Macedonian, Greek or otherwise, and the country name. With all due respect to all the grandmothers, we have enough conflict in the world with out me insulting the Greek nation and contributing to more conflict, so I stay with my comment. I suspect the Serb knew what he was doing. Maybe good trolling ... maybe over the head of some Americans.
Some light reading, pre-treaty. Also do the links to the protests. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-42963058
