What's Easter like where you are?

Happy Easter . . . and Passover too . . . to all. I went to Jerusalem this morning: the Jews are celebrating the week of Passover, the Eastern churches (Greek and Russian Orthodox, Armenian, Copts, Ethiopians) are celebrating Palm Sunday, the Catholics and Protestants are, of course, celebrating Easter, and the Moslems are hawking souvenirs and comestibles, all (locals and tourists) within the confines of the walled city - about 1 square kilometer. The crowding inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (the traditional site of the tomb of Jesus) was incredible. I've been in crowds - metros all over, Venice at Carnivale, but never, ever like this. And people from all over the world. I've posted a few photos on my Picasa web albums to give friends a glimpse. I think this is the link https://picasaweb.google.com/pitzikat/EasterPalmSunday2012?authkey=Gv1sRgCNPhzYrA8baZswE&feat=email# I hope some of you will share your experiences wherever you are - or have been in the past.

Well, yesterday at 16:30, they had the "Pealing of the Bells" in Frankfurt. This is 50 bells in 10 of the downtown churches ringing for 30 min. This morning, at 05:45, the Alte Nikolai church had a small bonfire down on the Roemer to greet the Easter morning. All of the churches are packed, and because most of the churches tend to share their sanctuary space with other languages, there were services going on all day, 1st in German, than later in perhaps Croatian, or English, or Italian, or Indonesian. It was busy downtown. Other than that, people either all go out to eat, as the restaurants are packed, or there is a huge feast at home. Then they all go out walking, either along the river or through the parks. The Zoo had an Easter Egg hunt and I think there was one at the Palmengarten. The Dippemess is going on so I am sure lots of families headed over there this afternoon. Unfortunately, it is quite cold here, though the sun is out. Thank you so much Chani, for sharing your great photos. Wishing you a Happy Passover.

Chani, It's warm and sunny today in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, but still a bit on the "chilly" side. As is typical for stat. holidays, it's also a bit "quiet" with minimal traffic and other activity. Thanks very much for sharing your photos! What a special experience it would be to actually be in Jerusalem on Easter! Happy Easter!

Its coolish , about 9-10 but is lovely and sunny. Spend yesterday afternoon dyeing hard boiled eggs... and this morning had my kids over for pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream and a giant baked ham.
Now they are all gone, kitchen is cleanish, and I am plopped on couch thinking" gee got off easy as the kids dad is doing a big turkey dinner tonight for them " lol

What a wonderful experience it must have been to be in Jerusalem for Easter. Here in Seattle we are celebrating the sun - finally. Church service today was light hearted and I felt terrific and ready for a nice evening tonight. My family and I will gather around for a Easter ham dinner and mimosas. My contribution is a cake baked with love. Yesterday, I spent running around gathering fun items for my two granddaughters' (1 and 5 yrs) Easter baskets. I will enjoy the time with them today at dinner and looking at their faces at the sight of the baskets. I tell you, it was a whole lot of fun putting them together. Happy Easter Chani and all the great Helpline posters. Linda

Chani, that would be so wonderful to be in Jerusalem on Easter I would love it. Here, in Ohio...church pews completely full and no standing room left. Hope you are having a great day.

It has cooled off a bit- was in the high 80s last week- but today it is only 73, with clear blue skies and lots of early flowers in bloom. Even the azeleas are in full bloom and my first rose opened up today! Yesterday my mother watched as the children at the church across the street from her apartment drew chalk butterflies and Easter eggs on the sidewalk in front of the church after the annual egg hunt.

I had my first Passover Seder in Germany on Friday night! It was a lot of fun. The attendees were from all over - Britian, Ireland, Italy, the U.S., and Mauritius even! But it was all their first time at a Seder and I felt very privileged to be spreading some cross-cultural education. Plus they loved my food. I've been using the Easter holiday to rest up since then. Not much is open, anyway - a few bars and restaurants, but that's it. Ditto for tomorrow, but I'm hoping it will be a little warmer and I can take a hike. Thanks for sharing those amazing pictures! I might try to celebrate Passover in Jerusalem next year - it would be amazing!

In Salem, Oregon, we're marveling at the second day of partial sunshine. After the second wettest March ever (almost 10 inches of rain), I have been outside absorbing vitamin D and madly catching up on the yard work that has been stymied by the bad weather. This morning on my walk through the neighborhood, I saw someone's pet bunny rabbit hopping down the sidewalk, an Easter surprise that decided to high tail it (pun intended). Tonight, a gathering of diverse religion friends will celebrate with fresh razor clams, dug just yesterday in the full moon low tide, along with more traditional ham and scalloped potatoes. Perfect day. Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing.

In Texas, we went to church, had a snack then got together with extended family for a meal and an Easter egg hunt for the little ones. It's already shorts and tee shirt weather down here. The trees are leafed out and the flowers are blooming.
