Has anyone had problems with Western Union for payment of a rental deposit on a vacation apartment? I am renting an apartment through Paris Attitude, a vacation rental agency in Paris. I was asked to send a wire transfer through Western Union to the apartment's owner. Although it initially went through, it was then cancelled by Western Union to "protect me from potential fraud". Western Union says you should not send wire transfers to people you don't know. I've read postings elsewhere about internet fraud, and I can see how that might happen with VRBO, or a classified ad. But Paris Attitude is a reputable agency (recommended on Frommers, etc) so I think (hope) that I need not worry about fraud. What do you think? And what are the alternatives to Western Union? I've asked the agency to accept a Visa charge and for them to pay the owner but I guess its not their regular procedure.
