I think I'm ready to take the plunge to a smaller bag (I think) than my backpack, which I just realized weighs 2+ pounds. How much does the Alpenzall weigh? Thanks!

The Appenzell Daypack weighs 1 lb, 4 oz. (0.567 kG if my calculations are correct) according to the specifications on the website. It's constructed of a polyester material rather than the heavier cordura nylon.

it seems fairly light but it is a strong bag...i use it as my main bag now...i've downsized from rick's classic bag and i pack light enough but i am amazed at how much i can still fit in the bag...because it is shaped more traditional than a typical backpack it really packs well...

There are two other bags you might want to look at about the same size as the Appenzell:
Rick Steves Autobahn Backpack(which is available on numerous websites but not on his own--yet)
Tom Bihn Western Flyer
Both of these bags are designed differently than the Appelzell and weigh more, but it's always good to look at options.
