Weekend trip in July?

I will be in Ireland for a month. After that, I would like to go for a short weekend trip to a city, we like art, food and ambience. The dates would be July 22-25, flying roundtrip from Dublin or Shannon. We would like some place different, we have been to the following cities: Paris, Nice, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Harlaam, Venice, Rome, Bologna, Florence, Berlin, Prague, Krakow, Lisbon, Vienna, Brussels, Ghent, Bruges, Split, Dubrovnik, Budapest and London. My wife has been to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Munich, and does not want to return at this time. My initial thoughts of some places were Lyon, Valencia, Ljubljana and Milan. I don't want to drive, I want to stay in a city.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Edinburgh. Beautiful city, great ambiance, great people, tons of history and sights to see right in the city, quick flight.

Edinburgh would be my choice only short flight from Ireland and it is lovely city with lots to do for a few days. We particularly liked going to the royal yacht. Appears two of us posting at same time with same thoughts!!!

Thanks to both of you, that was in the running, I forgot to mention that! So Edinburgh over Glascow, or a day in each?

I would choose Naples/Sorrento for a weekend over Milan. ( even in July)

Can't help you with that question there is someone who posts on here a lot who has more info on Scotland than I do. If you decide to go with Scotland perhaps post on the Scotland section for better help. Just know I have been to Edinburgh three times and always something else to see or do. My favorite not in any order, the royal yacht, Edinburgh Castle especially at noon for shooting of the cannon. Holyrood Castle, Mary Kings Close I did that three times it was so fascinating but others think too touristy. I saw BBC broadcast years ago with Prince Charles about how it was discovered, amazing. Grey Friars Bobby churchyard. The museum can take several days. Swaying your decision am I????

Edinburgh! One day is not enough for Edinburgh but if you don't like it you can take the train to Glasgow and spend a few hours there. We spent six days in Edinburgh which included some day trips. Look into which sights interest you and plan your time!

I liked Glasgow as much as Edinburgh, and it's less touristy, but many people definitely prefer Edinburgh, which has more old historical sights. In any case, I wouldn't split the time. There's lots to do in Edinburgh, and it's a bit less rainy than Glasgow, on average.

Thanks to you all, I would feel stupid going anywhere else than Edinburgh at this point. Thanks for making it so easy!
