Weather in Paris and Normandy in October

Our trip to the heart of France is in October and I was wondering how to pack - is it cool or do we need to consider clothes for warm weather, as well?

Unfortunately reliable predictions of the weather can't be made this far in advance. The following words were written by someone in Paris yesterday: "We have hit early autumn. A bit windy today with no sun."

Weather.com gives averages, go there, input a larger city near where you'll be and when today's weather comes up, scroll down and click the Averages button, it will give long term averages by month for the area in question--that's the best you can do right now. Then, when you get to within 10 days of your departure, start monitoring the weather.com site, and especially so as you get down to within 5 days, 2 days, etc--by then you will be able to get relatively reliable predictions and will get a better idea of what the actual weather will be on your trip. Don't rely too much on people posting here and saying: We were there last year and it was good weather--not a terribly reliable way to pack, as weather can vary significantly from year to year.

Even if it is pouring rain, at least you are getting soaked in Paris and not Plainville!

We were in Normandy in early October last year. One day was absolutely glorious. Clear and about 78 degrees. The next two days were drizzly and gray and a little cool. But Normandy is so beautiful and interesting the weather is really of no consequence. Paris later in the month was actually pretty warm so it is very hard to plan. Bring clothes that you can layer and rain gear for sure.

Thanks everybody.
The main question that I really didn't get across was should I bring sandals and walking shoes or just walking shoes? Sounds like just walking shoes...

This is our first time we are packing so lightly, and other than shoes, I think we will be fine. I haven't come across a shoe that can be worn walking during the day as well as for dinner with the "good outfit" (that we wear a million times?)
