weather in mid August for Baltic Sea cruise

I am going on a cruise on the Baltic Sea in August. In looking at the weather charts it is right on the line if I will need long or short sleeve shirts. Has anyone been there during this time of the year who can give me some advice?

Take some of each. As you say, it is a transition time, weather-wise.

Weather in northern Europe can be changeable... you could luck out with sunny blue skies every day or you might encounter the odd rainy/cool day. Plan to wear layers (t-shirt plus a long-sleeve shirt or light jacket/light fleece) and take a light packable waterproof jacket.

In looking back at our Baltic cruise photos from late August/early September, I had on a short-sleeve t-shirt with a long-sleeve shirt (or fleece) and capris in every location; hubby in short-sleeve t-shirt and golf jacket with long pants in every photo.

BTW, there are long threads about weather for Baltic cruises on cruisecritic.com if you use the "search" feature.

Tends to be chilly when the ship is at sea especially if there is a little wind. Take a jacket or medium weight sweater. I always take two short and one long sleeve shirt just to cover the bases.

We did the Baltic cruise a few summers ago and i never wore shorts or went out without a sweater or light jacket. We went early July. Even in Copengahen it was cool in the morning, warmed up a bit, then cooled down. We did the British Isles 2 summers ago and the same weather - cool. We took long, light pants, sweater or light jacket. On that cruise, our last stop was Guernsey and it was hot, but not Florida hot, more like New England hot.

We did a Baltic Cruise that straddled July/August. In most places the weather was comfortable short sleeve weather in the day, maybe a windbreaker/sweater at night. We went to the beach north of Copenhagen one day and it was sunny and nice with surprisingly comfortable water temps. For our time in St. Petersburg it was into the 90's - really hot. We had some rain but not really enough to worry about. One sea day was quite stormy - windy and big waves - they closed the pool and most of the activities so we caught up on sleep in our cabin.

I think August is the best time to be there. Normally it's not as hot as in other parts of Europe but is the time with the most reliably nice weather in that region.
