Weather in Chamonix end of September

We're going to be flying into Malpensa late September. We were wondering if, due to the possibility of bad weather, we should even try to go to Chamonix for one night, then Zermott and Stresa the next day. We have plans to stay in Stresa for 4 nights.

I wouldn't particularly recommend a one night stop in the Alps. September is usually one of the best months for hiking. But if a weather system moves in on the one day you have allotted, being rained and fogged out in the Alps can be one of the most depressing (and expensive) experiences in Europe.
