I was there in November 2008, and was I ever lucky! Not too cold or too hot. I took the long underwear, and didn't need them. But the weather can change. Before you leave for your trip, look online what the weather will be like so you know what to pack.
October should be more beautiful than November when I was there. Most of the leaves were on the ground by then, but in October, it should be lovely!

I've been in that area in Sept./Oct. and the nights will probably be "cool". Hopefully there will be sunshine during the days.
