Weather in Amalfi Coast in October/November

Planning 9 nights in the Amalfi Coast based in Sorrento. What kind of weather can we expect for mid October to the beginning of November. The average we see are 71 degrees ave high and 53 ave low. But reading some posts on line it sounds like it is warmer than that. Thanks for the help

We take one of our annual holidays to Sorrento in mid October. Usually very pleasant sunny days with cooler evenings, just a jacket needed. Occasional short sharp showers with maybe a thunderstorm. The weather turns autumnal about the last week in October.

However, that was the case for 29 years but last October it was chilly enough to turn the heating on, for the evenings and early mornings, in our rental apartment. Fingers crossed that it returns to normal this coming October.

Hi Linda, I was also wondering what are the crowds like at that time of year? I been reading that the buses from Sorrento heading towards Positano, Revello, Amalfi, and Paestum can get crowded fast. Thanks for your help. Dale

It is still fairly busy but not too bad, I prefer a little bustle about the place. The good thing about it being busy is that almost everything is still up and running. The only thing definitely not available will be the seasonal coastal ferry services but the Sorrento to Capri and to Naples services run, weather permitting, all year round.

If you intend visiting Positano,Amalfi and Ravello on the same day by bus, visit Positano first then go on to Amalfi and Ravello. That way you should be able to get a seat on the bus back to Sorrento. Generally the crowding is nothing like as bad as in July/August/September (touch wood and don't hold me to that!).

Sorrento to Paestum is not straightforward on public transport. The quickest (relative term) way is by train either via Naples and Salerno or via Pompei and Salerno. The Pompei route would mean a 2km journey from Pompeii Scavi station to the mainline Pompei FS station.

Re your post about hiking, a good book to get is
"Landscapes of Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast by Julian Tippet". Available from Amazon and I have seen it in bookshops in Sorrento. This is their website

Be sure to check the Sunflower website for the free updates submitted by walkers.

Because of my OH's chest condition any walks involving climbs, however gentle, are no longer possible. So the tips on taking a bus to the highest spot and walking down are very welcome because it is a shame to miss out on the views etc.

Have a great holiday.

For anyone visiting Amalfi, I cannot recommend highly enough a trip up the hill to Revello, a beautiful artistic community, with a discerning tourist traffic. The only downside to our trip was the RS recommended Restaurant Garden. We are very reasonable and flexible travelers and seldom have a bad meal or dinning experience, pretty much anything goes though we appreciate good food and service when we get it. Unfortunately, neither the food nor service was very good and it was effectively the worse dinning experience of our 10 day trip. Many more options are available, and I strongly suggest that you try one of them over Restaurant Garden.
