Waterproofing leather shoes

Do you have any ideas on waterproofing leather shoes. I have leather Ecco's and leather Merrell walking shoes. i didn't really want to buy another pair of shoes. We will be traveling during mid-may and early June so there is a possibility of rain. Thanks to all of you for your responses. I'm new to traveling in Europe!!! Jim

Get a jar of mink oil and take it with you. Every so often clean your shoes and rub the mink oil on the uppers and around the seam between uppers and sole.

Mink oil is in a paste form - like shoe polish.

Mink oil is a good idea, but I only need to do my hiking boots every couple of months and they really get abused. No need to take it with you, just do one really good job prior to departure.

Stay away from spray-on "water-proofing" junk.

Sounds the same, but maybe not. I use dubbin...same sort of idea, a paste that you rub well into the leather and the seams (espy those that join to the sole), rub the excess off, and buff them up. Do it well once before you leave, and you'll be fine. Available at any place in Canada that sells shoes-boots.
