Water repellant for shearling

I bought Scotch guard but the lady at the store told me NOT to use that on the Shearling boots. She sent me to Drysdales (lots of western wear, including every type of boots), and they suggested "Justin Boots, original workboots."

All it says on the can is "water and stain protector." Nothing about the type of leather etc.

What to do? I'm kind of nervous to use this stuff, yet they cautioned me about using SG.

These are the boots. Mine is black and daughter's boots are brown.

I have never found S Guard to be effective at providing long term water resistance. It is a surface treatment and wears or washes off quickly. If you want waterproof boots or water resistant you need to buy water resistant boots.

I don't know about Tornado Alley, but every shoe store in Frankfurt sells spray that is just for use on suede. They will not make your boots completely water repellent cause nothing can do that except a coating of rubber, but it helps to keep them clean. At the end of the day, rest assured that it is leather and as such, kept the animal it came from also dry. Try some shoe stores for spray.

We're trying the spray I bought at the store that recommended it, and as long as it sort of keeps water off a bit, that's good enough for me. Thanks.

I just did my daughters shearling boots. I had to go to two stores before I found one that said it was okay for suede. It was called Protect-all and might be from Kiwi (I didn't pay much attention to the maker, just the uses) If it doesn't specifically say it's for suede, I wouldn't use it.
