We are thinking about Europe for this Christmas holiday, but are trying to find warm or temperate weather. Any ideas?
Even the southernmost part of Europe is not as far south as New Orleans (Athens is slightly north of Nashville, TN). You might think about other areas, like Morocco or Central America if you are looking for warm.
I would go to Central America. Had a grand time with my daughter back in 2007 - Costa Rica.
How about Maui? Or, Central America? I've been to Austria/Italy in February skiing, and about froze my tail off. I was used to the warm weather skiing at Lake Tahoe. My problem is with cabin fever, as there are few places I really want to visit in the middle of our winter.
There are very few truly warm places in Europe that time of year, but there are places that are less frigid. Since you asked about Europe specifically, I would suggest southern Spain or Italy.
A quick look at a map and following the latitude line around will show you that most of Europe is located closed to the Canadian border than Florida. While the Med has a big influence moderating the weather in southern Europe the days are still short and sun in weak. You best bet for temperate weather would be the southern coast of Spain, France along the Med but it could still be jacket weather. I vote for Costa Rica.
Philippines. We went. We liked it. We will be going again.
I've spent several Christmases in southern Spain, and while it's warmer than the UK, it's not swimsuit weather. Although you might not need them every day, you would need to take sweaters and a warm coat.
And the places in Europe that tend to be a little warmer in the winter tend to be a lot wetter as well. Its cold!!! Embrace it!!!!
You are looking in the wrong hemisphere. It will be summer here in Australia at Christmas time.
Maybe Madeira or the Canary Islands. Between 20 and 25°C and a fair chance of rain. Madeira will have the most rain, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura the least.
Look into Malta if you want Europe. They've got a history that goes back 5,000+ years so pick your era and you can find it there. It's easy to get around, language isn't a problem and you can cram a lot into a short period of time since it's so small. The people are fabulous and the food, I thought, was pretty much across the board although it seemed to slant to Italian and English.
