Want some input before we leave

Hi

We leave for Ireland the 24th of April (in a few days). I am curious as to what everybody thinks is the bare minimum amount of money for a 16 day trip to Europe (Ireland, UK)

I have my ideas and because of the economy I am taking a lot less money this year than last.

Thanks

Brian, is the amount to include hotels? or do you mean food and Walking Around Money (WAM)? And how many people are going (I assume it's 2)?

Hi Maggie

My accommodations are taken care of, I stay with my family and rent a car (also pre paid). So yes WAM DAM <-- Driving Around Money =) and food.

The sum I am looking for is a average that people feel they need for a holiday with the major items already paid ie. Airfare Lodging and Transport..

200 dollars a day seems a bit above average to me. Me and my wife are not extravagant whens it comes to shopping and eating. I talked to my Uncle in Ennis and he told me that petrol has also gone down a bit.

I was born in Ireland but not raised there. As I said this is the first year that I am on a real tight budget.

Even without being extravagant with dining, Ireland is expensive. You will spend way more than you think you will for things like meals and incidentals. I think you'd be safe with $100/day per person.

Brian, My sister and I are traveling to the UK in September. I'm hoping to keep my expenses to £75 a day. I'm taking into account B&B's with 2 people sharing but does not enclude transportation expenses. Past experiance has shown us that we can eat fairly inexpensivly. It would be great if you would give us all some idea of how you did when you return. Have a great trip.

Yes, I too would like to hear from you on you WAM-DAM (love it!) when you return. I'm going in September and I know food and drink can be spendy. Also would love to hear about your trip. Thanks!
