Walking Tour in Bruges

Seeking recommendations for private walking tour guides or operators in Bruges! We like to start our time in a new city with activity and getting our bearings - walking tours are our family's favorite. It'll be our family of four, including two teenagers. We would prefer to do a private tour/tour guide for the afternoon.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have Ricks Belgium guidebook? He has a Bruges city walk in it.

Yes, we do have his guidebook, we are looking for a local individual to introduce us to the city in addition to that.

Lori, I did a search of the forums for any previous, somewhat recent posts with guided tour recommendations and really didn't come up with anything. Maybe it's because the historic center of Bruges is reasonably compact (we've stayed there for a few days) and most folks are able to do their exploring with pre-research, a book and/or info from the local tourist info offices: they do offer several self-guided walking routes (see last link on this post).

But they also offer this 2-hour walk with a local guide that might work for you? Fortunately it is an afternoon tour, just as you'd wished! :O)

In case you're interested, here is the info on the self-guided 'Oooh! Bruges' self-walking guide offered by the local tourist offices.

We found Bruges to be quite an interesting place, given time to delve beyond the surface. Lots to take in if you have an interest in history. I hope you are staying a night or two? Sadly, I see that one of my favorite historic attractions - 12th century Sint-Janshospitaal - is largely closed for renovation until sometime this fall but no matter, there's plenty else to explore!

Hey Lori, when I was in Bruges with my family we did an excellent free tour with Ambassadors. They are from Bruges and focus much more on stories than most tour guides which made it a lot more interesting for our teenagers as well. Here's the link to the tour https://ambassadorstours.com/en/bruges/free-walking-tour-bruges

You can also book a private tour with them (https://ambassadorstours.com/en/bruges/private-tour-bruges), but we really like it that the group was about 20 people and you only decide at the end what to pay.

wessler.erik, thanks for mentioning the free walking tour. I just booked it for my arrival day in December.
