What are the best walking shoes for Europe?
Go to the Graffiti Wal and read to your heart's content. Shoe preferences are as varied as are people.
There is no "best" shoe. Everyone has different preferences, as Monte said. Many here love pricey walking shoes, others prefer basic athletic shoes. What's most important is that whatever you pick, they are comfortable for YOU. Also make sure they are well broken-in before your trip.
Anything that will be comfortable for you to walk (and walk and walk) in. Think, at least, a full day of shopping at the mall - or a day at Disneyland. My favorites, when I don't have to dress up, are light hikers (North Face, Merrill, Columbia) or Trail Runners (Adidas, New Balance, Reebok). I like darker neutral colors because I think they provide more flexibility to mix/match and dress up and down. My wife bought some sketchers bicycle style shoes last summer and really liked them. They're her travel shoe of choice now. http://www.skechers.com/style/21159/bikers-hot-ticket/chtp
At the risk of sounding trite... What are the best walking shoes for Basalt, CO? The answer is the same.
As Monte said, go to: "Graffiti Wall > Planning & Packing >
Best Walking Shoes" to find out, basically, "to each their own best shoes".
As others have said, go to the Graffiti Wall and check it out. There will be many different opinions or preferences that people have on this subject. As for me, I came back from a trip one time with foot and heel pain. My foot doctor said that I should only wear New Balance shoes because of the cushioning and support that prevent injury when "pounding the pavement". He said I should not buy them at a department store, but go to the New Balance store, and ask for someone there who was a "fit specialist", either the manager or assistant manager to help me find the right fit in a walking shoe. He and all the other doctors in his orthopedic group wear New Balance every day. (And no, they don't own an interest in the store they were referring me to.:) This cured all of my serious foot issues. I've worn out several pairs of New Balance shoes, walking all over England, and highly recommend them.
See!
