We're two people traveling in Italy and Switzerland this summer and are wondering if the new VW Polo is large enough for us (or more importantly our luggage). Each of us will have an overhead sized, roll-on suitcase and a backpack/rucksack and would like to make sure that all of that will fit in the trunk. According to the AutoEurope site. it'll only fit one suitcase, but that doesn't seem right. Any firsthand experience?
It may or may not work with the rear seat up, depending on how big your backpacks are. However, if there are only two of you, you should be able to fold the rear seat down to extend the luggage space, which will definitely be big enough.
I looked at the car and would make a judgement based on the cars I've rented overseas --- I think you will be fine , but one caveat -- your two small roll bags should fit in the boot , as far as the backpack/ rucksack issue , this is how my wife and I do it - the clothing ( roll bags go in the trunk ) , the backpacks ( with sensitive essentials such as medications , electronics and chargers and anything of any sensitivity ) go on our backs if the car is parked anywhere during a day trip , so the room in the trunk will be adequate . On an overnight or two or three , the trunk bags live in the hotel , and the day bags stay with us . If the car is stolen or otherwise compromised , sensitive things are not at risk , ever ! -- the clothing bag is essentially valueless . I hope I've been clear ,but it's a little late here and after a glass ( or two ) of wine , let me know if I've been vague , Best wishes ! By the way , be careful about that cross border drop off , I understand that can carry a rather onerous additional fee .l
