I have read the fineprint and understand that both of these airlines have a carry on size limit of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, this translates to 21.7" x 15.7" x 7.9"....everything I have seen, including RS is 9". Does anyone have any experience with this and has the 9" versus the required 7.9" been a problem??
Ah, I understand. I suppose the 7.9" options have been shopped and are either unavailable or inferior. Unless I hear otherwise, I will move forward with a decision based on wheeled versus backpack style......and just plan on paying $$$.
Dawn, since Vueling and Ryanair are low cost airlines they are stricter with carry ons then an airline like Luthstansa , be careful . I am flying Vueling, and there is a charge to check a bag, about 5 euros WHEN you book ticket, but it is MORE when you arrive at airport ( I think 11 euros)AND if you get to gate and the bag is rejected,, guess what the fee then goes to 15 euros to check it.
Low cost airlines make their money somewhere, they are not charities!
I think they purposefully make the carry one measurments that weird( you are right most bags are 9 inches, not 7) to catch people up.
I paid to check my bag.
I think a small backpack could be compressed to fit the 7 inch thickness if not stuffed, but the only 7 inch suitcase with wheels I have seen was way to cheap and small ( cheap as in crappy fall apart ) .
I think 55x40x20 (44 liters) may be pretty standard. Lufthansa's website gives those same dimensions.
I have never had a problem carrying on my RS convertible. Lufthansa has never measured it, but they have a box by the gate in Frankfurt, and it always fits in the box. My convertible bag, being somewhat flexible and, due to the weight restriction (8 kg = 17.6 #), filled to less than the maximum volume, conforms to the box easily. I'm told rollaboards are more rigid and don't conform.
