Hi Emma that sounds fun,, I would have been up for that 30 years ago! lol I suggest you post this request on the "Travel Partners Wanted" on this site also, as well as on Lonely Planets Thorntree Forum.

I think what Nigel was getting at is that you may need a visa even for volunteer work... although I'm not 100% certain...

Not worrying, just hoping that you and any potential partner avoid any problems...

Hello Emma. Travelling on a motorcycle, or motor scooter, at Greece, is very dangerous. Driving a car in Greece is very dangerous. Many Greek people are crazy when they are driving a car. They cause head - on collisions. I was driving a rented car on an island of Greece, in a town. Suddenly I saw in front of my car, a car that was stopped on the road. No person was in the car. That road had only one lane for going that direction. It was necessary for me to abruptly stop my car, to avoid smashing into the parked car in front of me. I was at risk of my car being hit by a car that was in back of my car. That causes a person to have a snapped neck (instant death). An extremely high number of people are killed in motor vehicle accidents in Greece, every year.

sounds like mexico, good to know! so how would you describe greek culture? what should i look out for? whenever I tell somebody that im going to greece the first thing they say is the men are very.... how should i say this, flirty? and women are below men. Also I have heard that there is a ton of crime because they are desperate in these times. I didnt think greece was like that at all so i would like to hear from other people.

Emma, when I was a young girl my friend and I spent a few weeks in Greece. The men are no worse then Italy. If you act flirty they will definately act flirty back,, if you don't want that sort of attention then don't wear a bikini top around top as a top etc,, and local girls do not sunbathe topless, only tourists,, so the boys do view that as meaning tourists are a bit easier.. They never treated us badly, but you do have to act like a lady to be treated like a lady. ( I know that sounds old fashioned, its not exactly the best way to describe it, but its the basics) Ron is right, do not rent a scooter,, they are maniacs. There is some civil unrest right now in parts of Greece, sporadic protests etc,, easy enough to avoid, and I would avoid them, but don't think its exactly a high danger situation,, use common sence and you should be fine. I think most of the action is centered in Athens right now, and as I said, its seems sporadic and mostly just protests etc,, but just be careful and you should be fine. Read the news before you go so you are up on stuff. And finally, watch your money and stuff, like a hawk, I would advise this for most Europeon destinations, violent confrontational crime is not as huge of an issue as it is in North America,, but pickpockets and theivery seems more prevelant.
