Volunteer Opportunities

I'm heading to Europe for 6 weeks this summer and I've been researching volunteer opportunities during that time. Specifics include conservation-type activities, 1-2 weeks, preferable in the UK.

I'm just having trouble finding reviews about these types of activities and I'm interested to know if they'd be suitable for myself (solo traveler, female, 24).

Does anyone have personal experiences or recommendations about volunteering in Europe to share? Please and thanks!

Though it's not in the U.K. a good volunteer opportunity is at Pueblo Ingles. It's a program where native english speakers talk one on one with Spaniards in exchange for free room and board for a week in the Spanish countryside. I've done the program twice and it is a very fun unique experience. Their website is www.puebloingles.com, you click on the english version on the top right, they have an online application process. The venues are very nice and the people you work with are Spanish business people who need english for their jobs, the native english speakers range in age from 18-80 and come from Canada, U.S, Great Britain, Australia, Ireland. If you're spending 6 weeks in Europe this should be a great way to cut the costs on your trip. There is another program ran by the originator of Pueblo Ingles similar in style, the people running the 2 programs had some difference of opinion on how to run the program so they split, I believe his website is www.vaughantown.com. I think the main difference is the philosophy on how to teach but the venues and overall experience is about the same from what I've read.
