I am so completely confused about the European voltage and what plugs/adaptors to bring with. I will need to use an iPod, hair dryer, curling iron and camera charger. we will be in London, Paris, Switzerland and Italy. Do I need a different adaptor for each country? How can i figure this out?? Thanks
First, look at all the the chargers and see if they say something like "Input 110-240v" If it says that, you won't need a converter, just an adaptor plug.
France, Switzerland and Italy use the same plugs. The one for London is different.
Here's some info on what you need:
Get The Right Adaptor
First, learn to live without the hair dryer and curling iron. They are heavy, and, unless you can find dual voltage ones (particularly difficult with curling irons), you will also need the weight of a converter.
Your iPod and camera charger are probably dual voltage; all you will need are plug adaptors. You will need a plug adaptor for London, as well as another one, a Europlug adapter, for Paris, Switzerland, and Italy. The Europlug adapter is sold in many stores (ACE Hardware) as a So. Europe adaptor.
See the electricity page on my website.
I, too, need a hair dryer and other beauty tools while traveling. Who wants to look scruffy in vacation photos!!!! I bought a Revlon dual voltage hairdyrer at Walmart for $18, came with a travel bag and Euro and UK adaptor plugs. I also bought a $13 dual voltage straightening iron at Target. Just make sure anything you buy says Dual Voltage. That way, youll just need the plug, and not a converter.
Yes, and if you do get a converter, and if it is one that say 1600W, don't plug in anything electronic. You'll ruin what you plug in. Note, however, that a few voltage converters have both low wattage (50W) and high wattage (1600W) functions, changed by a switch or automatically. These are the only ones that can be used with both hair dryers and camera chargers.
Thanks to all for the info. So I've checked the things I need to bring, and they are all dual voltage (220)....so I should just need to bring an adaptor for London, and then another one for paris, switz. and italy, right??
Right, two adaptors: one for London, one for the rest.
