Does travel insurance generally cover acts of God? Is it too late to purchase insurance if my trip is in two weeks (and the volcano already erupted?)
Thanks for any advice!
As a general rule yes it does. However, if you are unable to travel due to the volcano, your airline will figure out a way to compensate you and I know from friends who weren't able to travel during last year's eruption that hotels will be understanding as well.
I don't think Travelodge will be...I got their nonrefundable rate. :( I could be wrong...but that's the price I'll have to pay...
Thanks.
In cases such as this that are unique they will often cut you a break.
Careful of general rules because they can be generally wrong. You have to read the fine print. Some policies will exclude Act of God or Nature, War, Terrorists, etc. And second you are only insuring your lost or potential lost. If airline makes arrangements, even if you are inconvenience substantially, you will not collect. Generally most policies have a requirement to purchase the insurance within a few days after the original purchase because this is what they want to avoid. There is a problem coming, now I will get insurance.
go to insuremytrip.com for some information on travel insurance.
But, Tom, it has not already happened...the ash cloud has not been in the UK while I'm there... :) I do know what you mean though...the volcano has already erupted...
The ash cloud has been and gone. It was announced 30 mins ago that ALL European airspace is now open again.
Roger
Most insurers won't cover you for an event that has already happened.
