Visit Ukraine Today

From the agency that collaborates with the government on all tourism affairs (closest thing to a government tourist site).

From the site:

To open Ukraine today is to see how people live in anticipation of the great victory, and to feel the beating heart of the entire free world. Become a witness of great history and go on a journey around Ukraine with us.

A perfect Plan B for that canceled St Petersburg trip. Not a trip I want to do solo, so I am checking with friends and acquaintances for the week after Thanksgiving.

My guess is you would have a difficult time. And rarely does insurance cover act of war. But sure, if you want travel insurance, a lot of questions there. For medical, Ukraine requires you purchase a Ukrainian policy. Last time I went I think it was about $10 and they did check at the border. You can get it at that same web site.

And don't expect the US government to come your rescue, it is Level 4 after all.

Nothing conventional about this idea. Anything could change at moments notice. I have some Ukrainian neighbors and they have done a couple trips Budapest to Kyiv and back in the last few months ... all without incident; but miserable in length.

"Miserable in length" is what I'm hearing about the journeys of some of the Ukrainians refugees who are arriving in my area. It took 3 days for a lovely older woman who is a new guest at the food shelf where we volunteer. She speaks no English but thankfully has a family member stateside who was able to help talk her through it. Still.... :O(
