On this tour in June..Amsterdam to Budapest.... Any suggestions on tour stops from those who have been recently? Good optional tours to take? Main stops: Melk, Passau, Regensburg, Nurenberg, Bamburg, Wurzburg. thanks

We went on an Avalon cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam 3 years ago. We did not and did not need to take any optional tours. The tours that were included at every stop were more than sufficient. Unlike most tours on the ocean going cruises there was no up selling or visiting "factory tours" so the cruise line could get their cut. We have been on 12 ocean cruises and one river cruise. This river cruise was by far the best cruise experience we have been on.
France for some river cruising next year.

The Grand Tour is the combined Rhine (Amsterdam to Basel) and Danube cruises. (Nuremberg to Budapest). I did those as separate tours in 08 and 10. There is an included excursion at every stop and usually a few hours of free time. I only remember a very few "optional" offerings.
Can you be more specific about the stops where you are looking for suggestions.?? We had only one day where we were entirely on our own and that was the second day in Vienna. But it was Christmas Day and there was really nothing available for a group excursion.
