This seems pretty generous:
"The credit voucher will be valued at 125% of the amount passengers paid for the canceled sailing and be good for 24 months.
"The credit can be used on any Viking river, ocean or expedition cruise.
"For additional flexibility, Viking said passengers who are unable to use the credit voucher will automatically get a full refund equal to the original amount paid to Viking after the voucher expires. The vouchers also will be fully transferable."
I expect the other cruise lines will also be considering a suspension of operations. There's not much point or financial incentive to operate empty ships and tour in cities which are mostly closed down. This crisis has spread a depressing pall over most of the world.
Yes, I just got the email notifying us that our April 30, 2020 River Cruise in Europe was just cancelled. The 125% voucher can be used within the next two years, or you can get a full monetary refund. Hopefully we can book again for 2022 (in two years).
Now I have to deal with all the non-refundable tickets, hotels, car rental and entertainment tickets that we had booked pre and post cruise. I have travel insurance, thank goodness, but insurance companies are scum. Let's see if they honor their travel insurance contracts.
Three cheers for Viking.
And 3 big boos for Vantage. A couple years ago I booked a Vantage cruse on the Rhine. A week before departure, I saw somewhere that low water levels on the Rhine were causing a lot of cruise cancellations. I called Vantage. No problem they said. You are good to go. Vantage lied. When I called, my ship had been stuck for a week at Koblenz, half the trip away from the intended departure point in Basel. Vantage stuck us in a crummy hotel-- smaller rooms than on the ship, lots of noise, 10 minute waits for the elevator, and food that made McDonald's look like fine dinning-- for half the scheduled cruise time. Vantage tried to take us bus to the scheduled sights, but many were dropped because of the great distances involved. And when we finally approached the ship in Koblenz, the bus got stuck in a three hour traffic jam.
Perhaps if they had written their brochures in a different font they wouldn’t have got stuck in the traffic.
@Nigel — guffaw!!!
I needed a good hearty laugh. Thanks, Nigel.
