When are you going. We went in late October without reservations (wife, self and three kids ages 8-16). People were meeting the train to let rooms. We checked out one place that wasn't quite big enough, then went to one of the main hotels and told them what we were looking for. Several women huddled in the street and took us to a nice two bedroom apartment for a decent price. I think the technique works best if you are flexible on your lodging and not traveling during high season. I'm not sure I'd want to try it if not.

Thanks for the advice. We want to be in CT 31 May - 4 June. Are a group of 8 adults/4 couples and would preferably like to stay together or at least close by. I think I would be happier booking in advance especially as the time borders on peak season. The fact that we are all mid 50's is also a big contributing factor to the necessity to pre-book too. We don't mind stairs as we are all pretty fit hikers. Also don't have a problem with basic accommodation as long as it is clean and the beds are comfy. Any comments on Vernazza Rooms/St Francesco and La Marina Rooms?

We loved Guiliano Basso. There are three or four rooms, all sharing a terrace, it would be perfect for your group. It is up the hill with beautiful views, very clean, nice size rooms. It is a climb, so it wouldn't work as well if you have any elderly people or very small children. Look Guiliano up on trip advisor, his place was #1 for Vernazza in the past. He is a character and we enjoyed him as much as we did the place itself. It is very nice!

I looked Giuliano up on Trip Advisor and I guess the proper name of his place is Camere Giuliano. Look it over, read the reviews and see what you think.

Actually, 3 rooms will not be enough for 4 couples. La Marina Rooms would work well. if you booked the 2-bedroom apartment and two double rooms. You could draw lots to see who gets the room without the sea view, but in any case they can enjoy the terrace. We did not actually stay there, but I corresponded with Christian about it and he was very nice. We ended up not stayin gin Vernazza, but if we had I would have chosen La Marina.

Hi Wendy, I wasn't sure how many rooms Giuliano has, but after checking, he does have four. If you could get in, it would be your own private place for your group. It was one of our favorite places. Give it a look.
