Verizon wireless in Ireland and Scotland

Going next May into June.

I used the verizon International plan while in Spain and it worked pretty well but we were really only in Barcelona.

It's imperative that I am able to be connected by phone at least 3 or 4 times during the week. Internet too. But not necessarily at the same times. It doesn't even have to be very long and I may not even have to make a call all week. Just be able to if needed.

I know, I know....I'm on vacation. Fortunately/unfortunately my business is extremely flexible and I can generally be gone for huge stretches with out even telling customers and they never know. Year round they don't know if I am in my office or on the golf course or out of the state even. So that is great. I just HAVE to be able to be connected if I am needed. Which is very sporadic and unpredictable. The flexibility far far exceeds any inconvenience I have whike on vacation.

The 6 hour time zone difference is actually nice as 6pm in Ireland and Scotland will be noon back home so I can still return calls and check emails when we get to our room or ready for dinner.

So I am just curious how Verizon works in places like dingle and other touristy but isolated areas? . How about while traveling Cross Country? In more rural areas?

Just trying to get an idea how good the service will be as we move around these 2 areas

Vick,

Which network you use at home probably won't make much difference when you're travelling, as you'll be connecting to local towers, and the coverage should be good.

I found coverage to be great when I was in Ireland, and I travelled all over the island (including the north). There was never a spot where I didn't have a reasonably good signal. I haven't yet travelled in the more rural areas of Scotland, but I'm assuming it will be reasonably good in most areas. Of course, there's also Wi-Fi when in hotels.

In the UK the networks are provided by Vodaphone, O2, EE and Three so it depends which one Verizon partners with.

In populated areas getting a signal shouldn't be too much of a problem but in remote rural Scotland there's no guarantee.

This coverage checker allows you to see the various cover in the UK. Zoom in, select a network, then the signal type to see coverage.
