Verizon now has a plan that includes international data and calling!

Good news for all of us that have stuck with Verizon phone service. Verizon now offers an Ultimate Unlinited Plan that includes international calling and data. Finally! It costs about $65 a month which is just a few dollars more than what I was paying. No more trying to figure out esims or SIM cards or paying the $10 daily fee or debating about switching to T mobile. And just in time for my trip. Yay for us!

Fine print is $65/month for 4 lines. Details show one line is $100/month. Both add fees and taxes to the base rate. For one trip a year I’m better off with what I have plus the current $100 international plan. I don’t use the add-ons.

The cost depends on how many lines you have on your plan. And make sure you understand all of the charges you will have with the new plan. If you look at your current bill, you will see there is more than just the plan charge.

For me to switch to that new plan, it would cost me $50 more a month or $600 more a year. Unless I’m taking more than 6 trips a year, I am better off with my current plan and paying $100 each trip for the international plan.

And the way the plan was described to me by Verizon, when you travel, you get to add one country and it's an extra $10 for each additional country you add.

Bottom line, make sure you fully understand any new plan before switching. You really need to read the fine print.

Hm, I will read the fine print but my total only went up by $6. I do have 5 lines on my account and I only switched mine. I do get an additional discount for being an RN.

Here are the details from the Verizon website:

High-speed international data, talk & text
Unlimited talk, text and data when traveling in 210+ countries and destinations. After 10 GB/mo of high-speed data, get unlimited 2G speeds.

Global Choice
Choose one of 140 countries and get up to 300 minutes to call that country.

Carrie, I think they meant this Global choice, you get to pick one country that you can call monthly from the US. Otherwise unlimited talk, text and data when overseas.

Wow. That is really expensive.

I have Verizon International Unlimited Service. It's not expensive if you're in the EU for more than 9 days, and it covers all of the EU. I often end up with multiple country crossings monthly (or daily) and that's never changed my rate. I pay $92 total/month, and call, text, send pics, etc all the time; I can also Zoom. The biggest problem I have is getting calls at Stateside hours.

Your other option, if you have a newer phone, is walk into a Telecom store once you're in country, and have them add an electronic SIM to your phone and get another line. But unless you're going to be in country more than a month they may not want to do that. Unlimited will run about 50 euro/month.

I get data-only eSIMs from Nomad when I travel to Europe. 30 days and 20 GB costs me less than $30. I can call using the data SIM via VOIP protocol with my Google Voice number.

Just another approach. Many ways to do this.

I investigated Holafly eSim which appears to be a good, cheap option. However, I decided I did not want to be without my data plan & looked into Verizon International. They offer a plan that does not affect your current plan.
It is $100 for a max of 30 days. I know it isn't cheap but not knowing if something works until I am already in Italy does not give me peace of mind.

Can anyone confirm that you can call and text to US from abroad with the Unlimited Ultimate Verizon plan?
Between two travelers heading off to Europe we were given conflicting information after numerous calls to Verizon.
We'll be in the Netherlands, Belgium and France for 2 weeks. For an additional $18 a month I chose the UU plan and my travel partner chose the International plan for $100 a month. Such an outrageous difference! I hope it's not too good to be true!

I posted a fitting response to a similar question on the France forum a couple of days ago, but the system does not allow me to copy & paste to another forum. So, in a nutshell, the Verizon Ultra Unlimited does allow an international plan for when you are in Europe, plus calling to one country in Europe from the US, and in my case it's an add of approx $10/month over my unlimited plan. You can upgrade for the time you are in Europe and return to the previous plan when you get home. I'm all in, even if I end up having 2 months to cover my trip, $20 beats $100, and no hassle of changing the SIM and phone number.
