Venice or Amsterdam?

Hello all!

Im a total newbie to this forum being that I just signed up today. Im planning a 6 night trip the week of thanksgving and Im torn between Venice and Amsterdam. Ive been to italy but not venice and ive never been to amsterdam.

Which one would be better to visit as far as weather conditions go? FYI im a 31 year old single male and ill be going solo on this trip.

Thanks guys!

Mark

My first trip I made sure to do both of them. An interesting comparison of two of the major commercial capitals in different ages of history, and both centered on water born transportation and sea power. In the best of all possible worlds, do 3 days in each. Not always logistically practical, but it can be done.
Weatherwise, they are similar in the late fall and winter seasons.

No contest. I have been to both places .. 3 times Amsterdam .. twice for Venice..

Amsterdam would win hands down for me.

Both places will be cool , rainy and dark by 4.30.. but .. there is simply more indoor things to do and see in Amsterdam.. more museums.. Ann Franks house.. more coffee shops,, more art.. cheaper food..

If you went to Amsterdam you do a few daytrips too...

If not sure still.. simply do some research and decide on what exactly you would be doing in for six days in any one place.

Welcome aboard, Mark.

I am leaning more toward Amsterdam, even though I like Venice more. There's a lot more to see and do in and around Amsterdam to fill up a 6-night trip.

If I were going on a romantic trip with my partner, it would be Venice. If I was going solo (and if I was still 31), it would no doubt be Amsterdam.

For a short trip, I would say Amsterdam. Major North American cities have non-stop flights. a consideration for me because I want as much time on the ground as possible on a short trip.

Venice for me, but I don't really care for Amsterdam.

While I think Amsterdam is worth seeing for architecture and museums, too much of the tourist draw is related to sex and drugs. I'd rather spend time elsewhere in Netherlands.

Venice to me is magic, especially when it's quiet.

I'd expect Venice to be rainy in November with likely Acqua Alta days (kind of neat to experience) - but no wetter than A'dam, which has about half rainy days and only varies a little by season.

From reading all the comments, I'm going to have to choose Amsterdam lol. It sounds like it'd be more fun from what you guys said and you guys have been there so I take that into heavy consideration!

Thank you all for your input! So awesome to come here and get advice from people who've experienced travel like no other.

I'll share my experience when I get back!

Wow! I thought I'd be the only one putting in a vote for Amsterdam! I was there in April and August this year and even then the weather was capricious (rain, hail, sun, rain, etc.) And that North Sea brings in a lot of wind, so bring a windbreaker........and have a great time!
